We all remember SeaHunt; which I'm sure is the reason that many of us became interested in scuba diving; but how many of you remember a show that was called Malibu Run, and then was renamed The Aquanauts? Does anyone out there have any copies of these old shows for sale? I really enjoy watching the SeaHunt tapes that I have and it would be nice to have a few of these shows as well. Safe Diving To All! Yes, I remember Aquanauts/Malibu Run. First Sea Hunt, then Aquanauts, then Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea took me in the right direction. That was down the road to a local boat sales place, where the guy taught a scuba course. That was before Padi came about. I have a paperback of the show, somewhere here on my property. It is from the Aquanauts, with Jeremy Slate's character, and the Drake Andrews character. Can't remember the actor's name. Terry--admitting we watched these shows dates us! You are a year younger than myself. Another show I loved, and joined the group, was Whirlybirds. Remember them, also? I don't dive anymore, but I did snorkel/drift with my kayak a mile down the gorgeous, crystal clear Rainbow River last week; and want to snorkel in Devil's Den up in Williston. Has anyone dove there? Have a good dive, Barbara

Hey, I remember those Aquanaut guys, they were always swimming around with flares all the time. Does anybody know where to get ahold of any of those critters???

Heah; at least a couple of you out there remember this show. Barbara; you're giving all our ages away, and you bet I remember watching "The Whirlybirds". The next thing I know you'll be telling me that you watched "Sky King" as well! Safe diving to you. Terry

Hi Terry and all, But of course I watched Sky King. Right now I can't remember the actor's name, but I did see him about 20 years ago in Orlando. He was at Florida Festival, which was right across the street from Sea World. It is no longer in existence. But he was there one night. I can't remember any specific show from Aquanauts, just that I was enthralled by scuba diving. My first regulator when I started diving was a double hose. Since we're bringing up old shows, how about Crunch and Des; and Ripcord? I loved those great adventure shows. Unlike all the dung they have on now. Barbara

I'll date myself, too...that includes 'Sky King'!
Keith Larson played the role of the one partner along with Jeremy Slate.
The University of Wisconsin has the tapes of this show and its successor, Malibu Run. Of course, Ron Ely took over the role when Keith Larson decided to leave the production team. M-G-M holds the rights to these shows as well as 'Sea Hunt'.
The Library of Congress has quite a number of these shows in their holdings. I want to say that the percentage may be as high as 75% of them.
It would be wonderful if M-G-M would release these titles to the retail and rental market. Oh, if you want the 'Sky King' episodes, they are all available from the EAA. Just in case you wanted to know.

The Aquanauts were not as interesting to me as Sea Hunt because they were using the Sportways Single Hose regulator. The Voit 50 Fathom of Mike Nelson was much "cooler". Little did we know then what the direction of equipment would go. There was one issue of a comic published for the Aquanauts. I obtained one via Ebay last summer. They occasionally show up there once in a while. I think most of us of this vintage got our start in diving with the two shows.

I remember all those great shows, Sky King, Sea Hunt, The Aquanauts. I also remember Rescue 7 starring the guy who went on to play Jock Ewing on Dallas. I seem to remember the divers on the Aquanauts using full face rigs - they looked like Kirby Morgan band masks set up for scuba.

You people are lucky to have had a TV back then, all I had was an old radio. All I could get was the Lone Ranger, and the Green Hornet. Today I have six TV's and still can't get Sea Hunt.

I do remember the Malibu Run series, and the Sportsways regulators that they used too. They actually were pretty cool to me, and I got a Healthways Scuba Star for my second regulator (a Healthways SCUBA was the first). I thought the stories were comparable between Sea Hunt and the Malibu Run series, and I didn't see as many gear switches there as I did on Sea Hunt. I really did enjoy those shows though.

Did you know that Sea Hunt (the last year) and the Aquanauts were filmed (underwater footage) on the same days from the same workboat off of Nassau? They had a wall with tank racks down the center of the deck, one side SH with Voit gear and the other side Aquanauts with Sportsways. She was a coast guard boat converted and was used during the filming of Thunderball/007 as well. Fun. A lot of the actors from the early shows were divers and tried to get diving into their shows, like Sky King not Death Valley Days of course.

I was just killing time reading old threads from before I discovered this site and ran across this thread. Since there isn't much going on I thought I would revive it. I remember another old T.V. show about diving that was on around the same time as all of these mentioned. I don't know how long it was on, but I think it was very short lived. The title was "Under Water". I can't remember the lead actors name but you saw him a lot during that time guesting on other shows and a lot of "B" movies of the day. On the show it often featured his daughter, an attractive young teen a la Sky's niece Penny. I was pretty young at the time, around 5 or 6 so my memory of it is pretty vague. Just wondered if any of you have any memory of this show.

Yes, I remember all of those, the Space Rangers and Captain Midnight. I really did enjoy both Malibu Run and the Aquanauts, but they didn't stay on the air long enough to really take off like Sea Hunt. At the time, we also thought the Sportsways single hose regulators were pretty cool. I mentioned that my second regulator was a Healthways Scuba Star, partly because it was a single hose regulator, and partly because it was cheaper than the Sportsways, which we considered a better regulator. The funny thing about that was that both were tilt valves that did not breath too well.
