Aloha All I don't know how many of you are members of the Historical Diving Society. I Like the magazine they put out called Historical Diver. It covers a lot of diving topics, Some helmet diving stuff, and some good Scuba Stuff. I really enjoyed the latest issue covering Emile Gagnan, and the Aqua-Lung 1948-1958. Aqua-Lung sponsored a color guide to the Early double hose regulators. Phil Nuytten wrote up a great Serial Number, Nameplate guide of the Cousteau-Gagnan two stage regulators 1948-1958 I learned a lot about the history of the DA Aqualung Has anyone else read the issue? Hi HONU GUY! Could you tell me where I could see that article in its entirety? I love the early BROXTONS and NAVY types and could learn a lot from it. Mahalo!

I'm so glad that Phil finally published all that information. It is indeed a great body of work for all us vintage equipment divers. Time lines, History, Serial ###. Color pictures All I can think of that you would want to know starting at Cousteau/Gagnan 1st experiment to the Royal. I think that the Historical Diving Society sells back issues but I would also encourage everyone to join!! www.hds.org/And in this issue we can see some other famous faces.....Dan, Dacor Jerry, Ryan, Just to name a few.

What we need is a magazine devoted only to vintage SCUBA. Leave the bubbles and Hard Hat divers behind us. Frans

I used to be a member, but no more. Got tired of all those dopey hard hat stories. Frans, I respect your opinion, but I can't call helmet diving dopey. It's kind of neat looking at the fish from inside the bowl: kind of like having your own submarine. And for those interested in vintage gear, hats are definitely vintage. SCUBA, hard hats, submersibles: I love it all! Now, if I could just afford an EXOSUIT...... Cheers! Pat

The HDS is coming around when it comes to scuba equipment. Their main event last year in LA focused on Scuba equipment and then this last issue is dedicated to scuba. It seems to me that there has been a much better balance of all types of diving history lately. The more interest there is in the HDS from people interested in scuba history the more coverage you will see. I'm sure they would be open to submissions from scuba historians. You can't fault people for writing about what they are interested in. -Ryan

I saw some sponge divers in Tampa when I was a child. I spent a summer there with relatives and we suba dived. I thought at the time why didn't those guys buy scuba gear. Seemed like a lot of fuss to me all those pumps and canvas suits. In any case, it was dangerous as well. Didn't those guys get sucked up the pump tube regularly when the valve and pumps failed? I imagine that would be somewhat painful.

I run with a bunch of Hard Hat divers here in Houston called UHEXSO. We do dive rallies and exhibitions every year with our equipment. All of us who do the safety diver chores usually use our vintage scuba stuff
