My 1970's Royal Aquamaster is just about finished. Purchased off Ebay for $120.00 in ruff shape i had it rechromed for $180.00. Then the regulator was sent to Dan for a new duckbill and high-pressure seat able to new 3000 psi. one would think, Dan you are ready to dive now.....well i have a few more ideas for this Royal Aquamaster Dble Hose Reg. Yes it is to be my everyday diver so i decided on adding some comforts! First off my original mouthpiece was shot so i fabricated my own more modern one. Next i contacted OxyCheq.com for a pair of rebreather hose protectors which will prevent punctures while on land or submurged. A Nice touch!! Then our buddies at Aquabuddies.com sent me a low-pressure attatchment for my next addition....Two way splitter for a bc inflator hose and safty 2nd stage. The way that this will be dived is as follows.... Steel backplate and 55lb OxyCheq wing, steel Dble tanks with Sherwood Seapac manifold . On the center post of the manifold will be the Royal with 2nd stage wore around the neck DiR style and lp bc hose. The right post wii be a 1st stage reg with a pressure gauge and another safe 2nd 4 your buddy. if you can put this all together it is safe and practical!!! HAHAHAHAHA last words........ the setup is DiR compliant considering the setup to be dived in DiR rebreather format!!!!!!! DiR with a Dble hose HAHAHAHHAHA !!!! The pics do not show finished resut but wii get pics soon !

Thats sweet! I used to dive DIR config - Halcyon wings, Koplin SS BP - then later went to a OMS bungee rig.
That sounds COOL & SAFE!
Send us some pics!
PS Who's Aquabuddies.com?

I'm a bit confused ......What is the purpose of the ball valve/mouthpiece? Is it set up to be some type of DSV valve or is it just to give it more of a rebreather appearance?

Yes Bryan, it is a fully functual DSV with one way valves on each end and an exhaust valve on the bottom to vent water when the dsv is closed. Not neccesarry but nice to have. Eventually I want to purchase an oc dsv from www.master.pl/~nemotech/rebreatherparts.htm so the 2nd stage will be integrated into the mouthpiece. therebye cleaning up the setup....costly , but will also be used on my rebreathers so I feel it will be well worth the cost!

Yes Danny, thats my web site.
Nice reg, but doesn't the 'modern gear' take some of the fun out of having a vintage rig?

Danny D,
Nice regulator. It has a very "operational" appearance.
I have to agree with ScoobieDoo when he said "Nice reg, but doesn't the 'modern gear' take some of the fun out of having a vintage rig?"
Nothing like an OW Instructor and his students checking-out your vintage gear. ;D
Enjoy!!

Well, I suppose one could say that about MY Hookah-to-Octo adapters as well - that, having an octo on the double hoser takes away from the 'historical' experience of it all.
I suppose it all comes down to what YOU want, how YOU want to do it, and what YOU feel comfortable with. As long as everyone is diving safe and having fun - then I guess its all worth it!

ScoobieDoo, Correct you are. As a I said earlier, I do think that Danny D's reg looks really good. When I dove Blue Springs with the group I did so with my Voit Trieste II equipped with an octo, BC inflator hose and SPG. Oh yes, and a BC with a dive compter.

As a matter of fact last August I was Diving In Rockport Mass with my double hose and no bc. The area where I wa diving is also a well known scuba training spot and I had several instructors that were on the beach that day yelling and repremanding me. I just shrugged it off and laughed to myself of their poor equipment rigs with hoses all over the place and octo's dragging on the sand. I at 21 years old have more common sense to see the flaws and benefits of diving rigs. These Instructors are what I see as 80's and 90's Commercialized Walmart divers with their Brand name this and the snorkels with dive valves, and finally to top it off their $4000 instrament computer panels. These guys wouldn't even know what to do If one of the situations that they teach their students about actually happened to them. " You can't dive with that old regulator......It can't work, it isn't brand new, it didn't cost you $4000 and it isn't on the front page of Rondales Diving Magazine!" HAHAHAH Those guys don't know their asses from their elbows. I know more diving history the evolution of equipment and why somethingis used on not used today. These guys only know what the pictures show them in their Padi diving books HAHAHAH....Sorry I had to vent

Danny, We are going to get along well! I used to 'troll' the other message board and piss off all the militant-DIR-ers - just for the fun of it! Ah, they made it easy. If a guy didn't dive they way THEY thought you should - you were 'Doing It Wrong!' Sadly, many things that I have seen so far in this sport -and of course, there ARE exceptions to the rule has been motivated by money or sales: *Sell a guy ANYTHING - whether he needs it or not - whether it fits or not - just to make the sale! *Trash the other brand of regs - they can't be any good if I don't sell them - right? *Buy THIS or THAT reg, gadget, rig and you'll instantly be a Joe Diver *If you don't dive the latest and greatest gear - its junk *If you didn't spend $500+ on a computer - your a dinosaur and diving dangerously *You have to have a wallet full of C-cards. Never mind if you have poor buoyancy control, etc. *Never mind if you haven't 'mastered' the basics - take another course - you'll get better *Never mind if you can't 'work the dive tables. Hell, thats what computers are for - right? NO ONE uses bottom timers or watches any more, right? *If it wasn't featured in Rodale's last month - it can't be any good, right? I mean, a $450 has got to breathe better than a $200 reg, right? *A BC has to have 16 D-rings all over it, cost $400, weight 10# and look like a tactical skydiving rig to be effective in diving, right? *Anything less than a $180 pair of fins is junk, right? ...and on it goes... How do I know all this? I used to be one of them...

Isn't there a group in Europe (England in particular) that call themselves the doing it wrong group? It seems as though I've read that somewhere. caveman
