ok guys , anybody have any info or source of info about the ondiphot camera housing/French /circa 1952? My father, Bill Crowe, was using this camera outfit when diving Caribbean in the early 50,s. Caneel Bay , Jan '53 ... Harbor Island , June '53 and others. I have his outfit with original Rollieflex and have been trying to research it; however there is very little info about it. I have thoughts of refurbishing case for water use and using for nostalgia shoots. As it sits now the case looks as good as the one picture I found on the internet, and my fathers friend who had the "rolli" says the camera is ready to go. To bad my current economy doesn't have any dive trips planned. A lucky kid was I, learned to dive at 5 years old in the Caribbean! Look forward to any info you folks might have. Anybody have any idea of its rarity or value? ......... Will be going thru his collection of photos and will try to share some as time goes on; also working on determining what movie camera he was also using at that time. A personal note here is that I regret now not going over this info when he was alive. Dad died 4/10/2008. Thanks again ....... Bill Crowe Jr.

Sorry about the loss of your Dad. I think it's quite common for children to wish they had learned more about their parents when they had the opportunity, so you're not alone.
If you can post pictures that would probably help jog some memories. Sometimes seeing an object can help people remember things about it even though the name has long since been forgotten. Good luck.

Cathy Church is probably the most well known underwater photographer in the world. www.cathychurch.com/Cathy Church Underwater Photo Centre and Gallery P.O. Box 479 Grand Cayman KY1-1106 CAYMAN ISLANDS Phone: 345-949-7415 (phone is forwarded to Herb or Cathy after hours) Fax: 345-949-9770 EMAIL:cathy@cathychurch.com Ok, if anyone can help you Dan or Cathy are probably the most knowledgeable people I know of in underwater photography. You should send pictures of your housing to both of them with your questions.

The best place to find a little techno behind is Silicone Valley.

Before you take a camera under water in the housing, grease any o-rings, close and seal the housing, and take the housing to the depth you want to take the camera to in fresh water without the camera in it. When you surface, let the housing air dry and then open it. This will give some indication if there are any leaks you will need to repair. Helps to ensure that you don't end up having to repair a vintage camera.
