I want to personally invite any of you vintage divers that are interested to my annual North Coast Party and campout.
Dates: September 15-17 / 2011 @ Albion River Campground in Mendocino County, California.
It's a dive get together I've been putting on every year for the last 12 years on the Northern California coast.
It's four days of ab diving, tank diving, eating, drinking and good times.
We set up a full blown commercial style kitchen with several high BTU campchef stoves. plus a large commercial style BBQ capable of barbecuing 12 tri tips at a time.
All this is accompanied by a complete tiki bar with lighting and hawaiian music, blender, and a big awning tarp cover to keep the dew off the kitchen. Pretty crazy huh?
The food is all potluck. You don't have to worry about bringing everything like stoves, lights etc. unless you choose to. We have power so we set up electric lights.
The rule of thumb is to bring enough food to cover yourself.
We combine food and will have several things going at one time. We share all our creations and at the end of the night we are all fat and happy.
All this doesn't include the game we always get. I always have a beer battered fresh ling cod fry and an abalone feed. On another night I may do something like fish tacos with fresh rockfish.
Somebody, or several people will get scallops and those will get sauteed in garlic, white wine, and butter.
Another guy makes the best home made chinese food I've ever had. His parents taught him how to make all sort s of stuff like pot stickers, egg rolls and other stuff.
We do some sushi too with fresh uni from the sea.
And if somebody gets a puget sound king crab they are the absolute best.
Then there will always be the hawaiian sweet ribs cooked over mesquite charcoal. Last year a guy brought some Korean cut ribs that were marinated in a special mixture and they were to die for.
Other people bring a few tri tips with a special rub and those get babecued rare, sliced up, and finger fooded while we wait for the next wave of food.
Skewered teriyaki chicken hawaiian style, slow cooked Kalua pork wrapped in banana leaves, grilled pineapple, coconut cream pies, flaming pineapple upside down cake, Grilled lobster tails from Socal, I've seen it all there.
This all tastes very good after a whole day of diving.
Which brings me to the other thing that goes down really nice after a full day of diving and game gathering. There are a lot of great micro breweries around too to choose from for great beer. Or if you want a blended umbrella drink we have a blender to make that happen.
The diving is cold water 46 to 53 degrees. The terrian is rock with outstanding underwater structure. Many of us have boats. If you have a boat bring it. There is also awesome kayak diving and the shore diving is great too. Many people ab dive in the morning then do a few tanks in the afternoon.
I can advise on where the best shore diving is.
If you want to shore dive you will be driving to different sites, usually only a few miles. If you have a kayak (preffered) then you can launch right off Albion beach and have enough range to reach some great dive spots. The thing about the North Coast is there is great diving everywhere and great structure with walls, channels, drop offs, pinnacles, etc.
The dive party is now a joint venture between two clubs, the North Coast Divers and the Redwood Empire Divers.
Between us we have 10 sites so there is plenty of room.
The campground is fully set up with power and water in each site, nice restrooms with showers and flush toilets, restaurant, store, boat launch ramp, deluxe fish cleaning station, and free WiFi.
The cost is $25 per night for tents and $30 for trailers and motorhomes with partial hook up and $35 for trailer/motorhomes with full hook ups.
If you want to do it on the cheap and easy then all you need is a small tent, a pad, and a sleeping bag. We will have plenty of room in one of our sites for small tents and the cost is only $10 per night per person.
For more info about the campground go to:
www.albionrivercampground.com
All of our sites are in "D" section at the opposite end from the restrooms. If you click on the map at their website you will see our sites (D-9 thru D-18).
If you have a larger motorhome ar trailer you might want to get your own site to make sure you have plenty of room.
There is a great dive shop 15 miles up the highway in Fort Bragg called Sub Surface Progression for air fills and miscellaeneous dive gear.

It would really be fun to have more vintage divers there this year.
So far we have a lot of freedivers, regular divers, a DIR component, and I'm the only vintage diver.
Oh yeah, and bring your hawaiian shirt.
Thanks
Eric
