Thanks for all the information on the VCR-2 Voit 50 Fathom. I have had one for a while and would dive it a couple of times a year. It was not the best breather. I did the modifications as suggested in the above threads and found the reg to be almost as easy to breathe as my Royal AM. Thanks for the info. I did not however reinstall the pin after rotating the venturi hole toward the intake hose. I tightened the yoke nut as tight as possible. Does anyone think that the pin needs to be reinstalled in a new hole in the case back? I couldn't resist putting that photo on this page of the thread--it is a great photo, Simonbeans! To answer your question, I don't think you'll have any problems with the regulator re-installed without the pin. I have done the same thing with mine; it does not have the pin either. Just don't loose track of the pin; you may want it back sometime. It is possible to turn the top box if you try to use it for leverage to remove the regulator from the tank, so just don't do that (don't hold onto the box when loosening the yolk screw). But if it does turn, you've simply put it back to where it was, and it won't leak water if you've tightened the nut down tight. SDM, thanks for the further input. That this regulator was designed my Emile Gagnan makes it even more special. I tried looking up the patent, and my Mac 9500 won't read the images (too old--and I can't update the software until I update the operating system; time for a newcomputer). But that is really great information. John

I am certain I am as behind on the computeresee as your computer is outdated--So tell me... How may I look up a patent?
Mine are hard copies --I obtained them many years ago via USD et al etc. As I consider the modern world there has to be a patent search site some where. And hopefully free!!

I am certain I am as behind on the computeresee as your computer is outdated--So tell me... How may I look up a patent? The easiest way is to search the patent by the number using any of the search engine and also check the site: www.uspto.gov/If it is too old might be a bit hard to trace. You may email me info see what can I do. Sam

Hi Sam and all,
My problem isn't getting to the US Patent Office site, it's that for my computer to view the images of the older patents (1975 or earlier), I need Quicktime 4.1. I have OS 8.1 on my computer, and I think I need a newer version to even get Quicktime 4.1 or newer (it's now at 6.something), I need the newer Operating System.
I actually do have access through my work PC laptop, but it's at work and I'm home for the holiday. I may go out and get it just to look over the Gagnan patent (it's from about 1953).
Thanks for the offer though.
John

Hi John
I think you do not need Quicktime to view the patent, It is another program I think it is innoVUE. I can convert it to PDF, let me not which one you are looking up, I can post it up or e-mail to you. BTW how was your holiday turn out.

Could someone please quote the patent number? it seems that anything before '76 is like a needle in a haystack.

After a lot of searching I finally found a Voit 50 Fathom. This one has a chrome case. This one allegedly has been rebuilt already and comes with the original mouth piece. I've already ordered and received a new set of Voit grey hoses and a duckbill valve from Dan of Vintage Scuba Supply! I'm posting the pics of the item as it was on Ebay below. As soon as it comes in and I put the new hoses on I'll post new pics then.

As a matter of fact, yes. I've been having a hard time getting a hold of the guy via email right now though. I was trying to find out if he had received the MO I had sent him. His name is Clayton Green and he is in Middleburg, Fl. Do you know him?

Try also Patent #3,028,860 filed by E. Gagnan Et Al. This not only shows the downstream single stage, but also a reserve mechanism built into the single stage regulator. Too bad that one was never built.
