Jaybird, have the paint tested for lead. Be very careful before the test that you don't get the paint into your system--confirm that it is not lead-based paint!

I'm hip daddy-o--thanks! Don't know why that didn't occur to me I should know better; just like don't sand an old car too much for the exact same reason. I'm not worried about it though, as I plan to exchange it for something smaller--I hope... I've got two HUGE ones I need to get rid of as well, don't like to move them their that big. My plan is to ask one of the places around here and see if they'll just trade me straight out for empties. Would love to get something smallish for that Sherwood manifold you gave me... Jaybird

Here's a side-by-side of the U.S. Divers Calypsos I&II: Calypso-I: note the LP-hose, can only be used for this regulator, and stem-gauge: the pin inside indicates how much air you have by how far it sticks out! Calypso-II: longer hose and ability to use any hose; different knob, less likely to snag of stuff, but same basic first stage. Calypso-I guts: note exhaust-valve is in diaphragm, also wish-bone lever to accommodate exhaust. Calypso-I: much more simplified design. Jaybird

Jaybird, beautiful examples of these two regulators. You can ignore my question on your Calypso I thread. I can see now that you have the original. I have had two of those, and now have one (the other went to a friend). The one I currently have is equipped with a Scubapro Sun-of-a-Gun snorkel's silicone non-return valve in the diaphragm. It fits! I've also equipped this regulator to be DIR-compliant! (I'll give you a photo of this regulator later.)

John, hey buddy! Umm, perhaps you can tell me why it looks like this inside the top of the box: See how the exhaust ports are iridescent! Ain't never seen that b'fore... Gonna take the "cap", you know, the LP-hose-nut-dingus, off the C-II and put it on the C-I that way I can use a T on it, and have a longer hose too! Jaybird

Jaybird, I really don't know about the coating. It is on mine too. John

I think it is part of the plating process, where the chrome isn't as thick or smooth as the rest of the part.

Gosh, the ONLY time I've seen this coloring is in the hardening process: which is why I'm thinking it's hardened. I'll ask my wife's friend who is a master-machinist. This ain't a cheep regulator, I'm thinking they went over-board in its production! Perhaps it was someone's "baby" and convinced the boys at USD to go whole-hog in its production Jaybird

Okay, I finally got my DH's together; still gotta make the pull rids though: I thought they looked like insects! I just got the tanks back from being hydro'ed. Left to right, 1972 USD 72-cf aluminum tank, and 1956 USD steel 72-cf Rene. Note on the Healthways valve, there's a port for an SPG! My Healthways Scuba Deluxe with Dacor aluminum back-pack. Voit Blue 50 Fathom: VCR-5(Voit Compensating Regulator) not the usual decal! Enjoy, Jaybird

A while ago, I found an old Healthways wetsuit. The logo was pretty worn away, so I thought I'd take a chance and try to restore it: I think it looks pretty-danged-good! Here's what it looked like before: Yeah, I know, they said "HEALTHWAYS", on them, but that's some pretty fancy hand-work with and exacto-knife for the stencil... Jaybird

I really like the way the SCUBA Deluxe turned out. You'll like it with the Hope-Page mouthpiece too. And the super-flex hoses are very, very nice.

So I guess I'm now collecting Beuchat stuff: We were out last weekend thrifting, and my wife asked me, "Hey, did'ja see the dive bag... It's a Beuchat..." cheap too--YEAH! I have no idea how old it is, but now I can carry all our dive gear in something meant for doing just that! Jaybird

Last Wednesday Robb, aka Oystrpir8, came by my house "out of the blue" and I saw he had a box in his hand, "Here, I know you like Healthways gear, so I thought you might like these..." They're Web-Feet, made of gum-rubber, and still with their original box! I put my Stabilizator-mask in the image to show size, but also because Healthways sold this mask too! I'll get some more shot of the box and fins later: the box has a picture of Tarzan and Flash Gordon on the side, okay, actually, it's Johnny Weissmuller and Larry Crabbe, most people know him as "Buster" Crabbe. I'm wondering, which was first, Water-Dogs or the Web-Feet? Jaybird
