This surely would be a good candidate for a vintage reg rebuild for use. This one spent its entire life in the Great Lakes area and has never seen salt water Does anyone here have specs on this model? Thoughts? :

This is a very nice regulator. Yes, it is a good rebuild candidate. More later.

Well it always had a little leak so I revisited it with my IP gauge and with a 500 psi tank it was found to be around 140. I tuned it to 100 and still the same leak Then I remembered I had a similar looking Voit first stage so I thought I'd try it out. Hooked it up and she pressurized and sounded just right! No leak! They even look identical. Crazy the way they're so similar. Made by the same company according to that crazy bird guy Anyway, what's the prognosis with the first stage that was connected to my Conshelf VI? Would anyone care to put a page or two of that uber cool SCUBA book that shows the inerts? Thanks fellas! Don (who still wants a copy of Fred Roberts book)

Just look up the information on any Conshelf the only difference in them is the number of LP ports, later the size of the HP port (3/8 vs 7/16) and the design of the balance chamber varied slightly over the years. They are interchangable but the later ones use use a backup oring and seal better. The exterior varies over the years but internally they are the same, the current AL Conshelf/Titan (old style) service kits work.....actually with the exception of needing a couple port orings, a Royal Aquamaster DH kit will work as well- same basic design.

Don, can you post some images of the exhaust-tee--please? It looks different than the Calypso's, and is the exhaust-mushroom the same size? I've been curious about this for a long time. Oh, and congratulations: you're picking this stuff up pretty quick! The scuba-pixies are mad, cause you don't believe in them anymore... although gremlins are another story! Jaybird

Sure Jaybird. Much of this stuff I've had but have not had the time to research and play with. But now that I've found this site I am inclined to learn from the experts and try out this old gear After work and some Mother's Day shopping I'll try to post that pic. Hopefully I'll have more time to play with one of the on-going project as well. Don

Okay, today I was at my LDS, and he had a Hydrolung Supreme: yeah, very different exhaust tee than the Calypso, and it's the same reg as the Conshelf-VI, with a different top cover. He also told me I/we need to keep an eye on the exhaust-mushroom for the Calypso-I, and that Voit 40-Fathom, as the purge button had/has a tendency to kill the valve. When you hit the purge button, it pressing down on it--whoda thunked?

Jaybird, the mushroom valve for a Scubapro Shotgun (the smaller model) fits very nicely in the metal frame for the mushroom on the original Calypso/Voit 40 Fathom. I have one in mine right now. And, they are made of silicone.

I'll say the tees are different Jaybird. Sorry I didn't put this up earlier. I would have expected the opposite...

Looks like the Calypso tee is designed to throw it back further from the divers view, and to compensate for the added exhalation resistance they made the mushroom/exhaust port larger. I can't wait to dive that Calypso. So, which is supposed to be the better of the two?

Don, I think your Calypso-I has a slightly too-big mushroom on it: I was just looking at mine, and the mushroom on that is recessed too, like the Conshelf... I'm thinking that the Conshelf might breathe slightly better because of the less restrictive exhaust? Oh, and thanks for playing detective with me: Jaybird

You know Jaybird, I peeled it back last night and as I recall the metal (wagon wheel area) looked larger and I don't think it had a recessed area for a mushroom valve to sit in. I'll double check it tonight though. I don't have a replacement and I'm not so sure it would survive peeling it off so I'm not going to try, but I'll eyeball it for ya D

Don, if it's not elastic enough for you to check, you really shouldn't dive it anyway, so check--please Hmmmm, I have some old neoprene mushrooms that are still good that I will send you: I was saving them as dive-savers, but you need them way more than I do! Also, if they are not elastic enough, your breathing characteristics are going to be ca-ca... Jaybird

No no, I did peel them back for a peek, I just didn't want to pull it out in fear of the little tab breaking off. But good point. If they're not durable enough to come out for a better inspection then it maybe shouldn't be trusted. But on a really cool note, I found a screw driver with a wide enough notch that I can pull apart my double manifold. Story at eleven.
