The material and buckle would work fine however you are going to need a bit longer length of webbing. Exactly how much is detemined by how tall/big you are but you need somewhere in the range of 10-12 feet of webbing. In addition you will need 1 or 2 buckels and a triglide. The triglide goes at the top of the BP and keeps the webbing from shifting from one side to the other. Piranha sells lengths of webbing and the other bits seperately. www.piranhadivemfg.com/category/Harnesses-216

OK, I know I sound like a broken record (remember those). The solution to this issue is sitting in my garage. I'll make you a hell of a deal on a 70's era USD pack with yellow-striped straps and D-rings intact.
Good dives,
Charlie

Just curious .... are you close to Erie, PA? I lived there for three years. Never did any ice diving; so, if you get a chance to ... take photos to share! This is my dive buddy from Panama. If you can get in touch with him. He teaches rebreathers and has dove most of the wrecks in the Great Lakes .... www.facebook.com/scubadiver1961?fref=ts If you use facebook, send him a message ... Robert Hey Bob, I am about 2 hours from Erie, PA. Which, as you know, is right on the edge of Lake Erie. I've never done diving there (and told it's not that impressive LOL). I'm originally from Philadelphia which isn't too far from the Jersey Shore so that's where I did most of my diving, aside from lakes. Is that friend of yours close in proximity to me? I'm a FB hold out. Maybe the only one under 30 LOL.

Welcome inkedhdrider, att pix might help in solving the webbing threading problem as a rule 2inch wide webbing is the norm.
Yes, SeaRat. Thank you all for being such a helpful and polite group of people. Definitely not the norm for the internets
john While this is one of the versions of the U.S. Divers Company backpack, I have one with regular weight belt quick releases that is as I described above. I'll see about photos a bit later. Using the link provided by Jaybird above, this is the type of strapping the U.S. Divers Company used: www.strapworks.com/High_Tenacity_Polypropylene_p/htp2.htmBut you can get equivalent webbing at an REI store too. John PS, Welcome here; as you can see we have quite a nice group to discuss things like this with.
