Dave,
Very nice photos from your Royal Aquamaster dive. I'm rather envious. The river here is now not in real good shape to dive, although I may later this week. If so, I will try getting my Royal Aquamaster some dive time--it's breathing very nicely now and ready to get wet.

Now that I have finally serviced my MR-12 Voit regulators, I am ready to refurbish my NIB Royal Aqua Master. Can anyone point out a video or some written instructions that will help me produce a properly operating regulator?
As always, your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Congrats on fixing up those MR12s. Your experience with them will help you with your RAM. The RAM is similar to the MR12, as they are both balanced and have similar balance blocks, HP pins, HP diaphragms, IP adjusters, etc. You asked for assistance, not advice, BUT, concerning the RAM, I wouldn't touch it. I'd sell it to a colle ctor for big $$$ and buy one of the many used ones on eBay to rebuild.I'm sure this seems to be odd coming from me. Yes, I do terrible things to vintage regulators, but your NIB RAM is something that is very rare and belongs with a collector. Plus, you can salvage a used RAM that's been rotting in someone's closet for 50 years. There are plenty of them around. I'm just sayin'.

Do I have this right? Royal Aqua Master=Balanced Aqua Master= Non-Balanced
What Phil said has a lot of merit really. I enjoy bringing an old beat up regulator back to life. Mark

Yes, RAM = balanced , DAAM = non-balanced (first stages, both seconds are non-balanced and identical).
If it is a true NIB reg, I would not touch it either, you can likely get enough for it to pay for another reg and all the parts to restore it (with some upgrades).
Like Vance said, the first stage is very similar to the MR12, you can look at Conshelf or AL Titan service info for more ideas, they are basically identical, using the same parts. The only real difficult thing to get right is the second stage, it's a pain to really get it right. If you intend to dive the reg, I recommend replacing the second stage with a HPR and a new diaphragm. It will breath much better and is much easier to adjust.

I have not found anyone interested in my RAM at a reasonable price and junk RAMS are unrealistically priced (on Ebay and Craigslist).
I got it from a guy in Chicago who used it one time and put it in the attic or garage for more than 40 years. I haven't opened the can yet but based on the condition of the hoses the storage facility was not climate controlled. The hoses have taken a set and aren't very supple. As I am unable to post pictures here, I will send some to JB and ask him to post them.
Thanks to all of you for your continued support.

Jim, Look in VDH's Manuals & Catalogs section. I'm pretty sure the RAM schematic and parts breakdown are there. personal.filesanywhere.com/fs/v.aspx?v=8d6d638a5f6075b5a46aAt least that is where I found the info a few years ago when I rebuilt my RAM. See pics. I made my round-lable AM (that I bought new in 1973) into a Phoenix Royal Aquamaster with HPR. It is one of the best breathing regs I have. Good luck on your rebuild project. Happy to answer any questions I can. Mark

CJ, good for you for wanting to use it bruddah! I like to use the things I own, even if it's just once. They are by no means a rare regulator, it's not like you have a NIB brass Divair, which would choke a horse with all the cash those things are worth...

The "box of junk" I bought had a (supposedly)NIB Healthways Scubair in it. I find it hard to believe something almost 60 years old has never been used.

Skip, which model: unfortunately they're all 1665's--what the heck man! Here are the first two 1665's... JB

JB the first stage on mine looks like the one on the upper right with the T handle, and I believe an OPV. The second has the chrome exhaust like the ones pictured, and a chrome purge button.

If you ever have the chance, take the one with the tilt-valve apart: you'll never work on one quite like it, I can promise you that sir! The components are so robust you'd swear they were made in an Eastern Block country: that's a good thing JB

I got it from a guy in Chicago who used it one time and put it in the attic or garage for more than 40 years. Thanks to all of you for your continued support. Back to the RAM question, .....ahem: OK, two things: If he used it it's not NIB. It could be full of rot or pristine. But used once is used. You are right about the prices people are asking for junk/used/unknown condition regs these days. AND you can't get a reasonable price for a rebuilt one either. Aight, that's three things. So, letting go of the NIB thing, rebuild it fo' sho. If you use an HPR, the whole thing is simplified by a fair amount, and you'll get a performance upgrade. If you go the Phoenix route and HPR, then it's pretty much plug and play. You know about these things already what with your fancy-schmancy DA. I'll be happy to assume ownership of the leftover parts....

Oh gee-whiz Phil, any posting is a good posting. We mustn't be so picky old boy, especially with so few people even posting at all! JB
