Just after the December Southeast Asia Tsunami, I wrote to Sam. I asked whether he knew any divers who might have been affected. There is a diving doc who wants to have people who survived the tsunami respond to a questionaire. He and other researchers want to get an idea of the problems these divers may have had as a result of the tsunami. I even sent him some questions about it that he could use. When I wrote Sam directly, I asked that he give the doc some information on divers who may have been out during the tsunami.
I have not yet heard from Sam, almost a month after the event. For those of you who have not been here long, Sam is a NAUI Instructor-trainer from Singapore. He has contributed to these threads quite a lot, as he is a collector for vintage regulators and diving systems.
Now, I fear that something may have happened to Sam during the tsunami. So I ask, Sam are you still out there? If so, please post.
John

Just to make sure you've got the right Sam... Sam (from Singapore) IS still a member of the forum.

Sam,
Please do post if you are still looking. I'm going to continue to post here so that this is at the top of the list for a few months more. With the tsunami in some of the diving spots that Sam used, I still have concerns about what may have happened.

SeaRat,
I sent an email to Sam on Jan 20 telling him of your post and that everyone on this Board was concerned for his well-being.
Although the email appeared to have gone through and was not returned, I have not yet received a reply.
Hopefully it's just a matter of no infrastructure due to the tsunami and that he will eventually reply in good health.

Jes, Thank you for the e-mail to Sam. I hope everything's okay on his end. Just after the tsunami, I sent a similar e-mail to Sam, and have yet to receive a reply. But I cannot send another as I have lost my Outlook Express, with its address book and e-mail history over the last two or so years (I hope none of you ever get the "Outlook cannot open becaus end of file was reached" dialog box ). I can not send and receive through Verizon, or receive only with my Edora Pro e-mail program (old enough not to have the authenication required by Verizon). So I'm a bit limited right now. John

SeaRat,
Did you ever hear from Sam?
I was looking through some old posts on another website and this thread came to mind.
I never received a reply from Sam.

Joe,
No, I have not heard from Sam. He is a NAUI Instructor/Trainer, and I might try contacting NAUI to see if they know about what has happened to him. I did send him an e-mail a few days ago, but did not hear back from him. Thanks for asking.

John, Sorry to hear that you haven't heard from him either. 6-months have passed since the Tsunami and still no word. Hopefully Sam is alive and well and someone will read this thread and let us know that he is OK. Better yet, maybe Sam will come back to this board and let us know himself. Regards, Joe

Things are not looking so good, are they? I'll make this thread sticky though in hopes that he will see it if he is indeed alive and well.
