Now is the time to start planning the 2018 Monterey Vintage Dive Rendezvous! Please feel free to make suggestions and ask questions. The date will be determined by consensus. When you are considering a date, please consult local Monterey resources so that your proposed date doesn’t conflict with some big event that fills all the hotels and closes roads (such as the Big Sur Marathon). Other than that, pick a weekend and a location and see what kind of response you get. FB users can also use the Vintage Diving in Monterey Caifornia.

Well, it looks like I won't make it down to Monterey. My wife is having surgery on her right hand, and will be somewhat dependent upon me for a while after that. Her surgery is about a week prior to your event. Nuts! Oh, well...

Don't worry about it, we will post many pictures. Do you still dive in Clear Lake? What about having a gathering there? You know the best time to dive there and the best places to stay nearby. It might encourage the divers in Oregon and Washington to join in.
Reminds me of a story. A few years ago my wife and I were visiting her family in Arkansas. One afternoon I picked up a copy of the "Sons of the Confederacy" magazine that was on the coffee table. Inside was an editorial from their exalted leader decrying their declining numbers so I wrote him the following note:
Dear Sir, I have a solution to your membership issue. Simply change the name from "Sons of the Confederacy" to "Sons-a- Bitches". That way, Yankees can join, too.
Sincerely, (I signed her cousin's name)
Oddly, we haven't been invited back.

I haven't been in Clear Lake in a number of years, but that is a possibility. Let me stew on it. For those who have never seen Clear Lake, headwaters of the McKenzie River, from underneath, here are a couple of photos: Photos of me by Bruce Higgins (using my Nikonos II). John PS, Love your story.

Are we still on for 2018 Monterey Vintage gathering? It's just over two months away and I am so ready for it! I was down there and dove the Breakwater on (7-1-18)and ran into Vance. He was having issues with his DH free flowing. Phil I hope you got it fixed. Sea conditions at the time were almost like a lake. Here are a couple of pics I grabbed from my video I shot from my Gopro. Playing with a small jellyfish

Sounds like a great idea. I’d really like to join in but I can’t do it this year. I have to save the other part of my vacation for getting together with my family at Christmas. I do get to enjoy some southern California diving in the channel islands. On August 4th to August 9th. Coming down with a group of Oregon divers from Eugene Skin Divers supply, and will be meeting up In Santa Barbara to dive with truth aquatics, on their live aboard boat theVision. We will be starting out in the southern channel islands and working our way back north. Next year I’m gonna keep my calendar open for diving with everybody in Monterey. haven’t found anybody in Oregon to dive vintage gear with except John Ratliff, “Sea Rat”. I would really be looking forward to meeting bunch of other vintage scuba divers and diving with them. Good Diving. Marion

Hi all,
It seems that last year's organizer, CJ, has taken a break from our community. Organizing this year's projected get together will have to be assumed by others, apparently.
I am still interested in appearing, but aside from a fold up table, a couple of camp chairs, and several boxes of regulators, don't have any of the other niceties like canopies, etc. The lawn area has picnic tables, but no shade. It does get crowded on weekends, so getting there early to set up is important. The turnout last year was 12-15?
We need a date. August 18-26 is the big car week event. Sept 21-23 is the Jazz Festival. I think August is out, since we're already in it, and the car week has taken a big chunk off the table. September and October are nice months in Monterey!
My vote is either Sept 8/9, or 22/23.

I vote for Sept. 15/16th. I have already made reservations for that weekend. CJ related earlier that the tides will be fairly even then. I will bring a fold up table as well as a pop up, & camp chairs etc. If that will work we need to get a head count on who is going. I have a couple of buddies from So Cal that want to come up for the event. Last years group was a great bunch of vintage divers. BTW I am heading down to Monterey this weekend to dive on the Beach Hopper II dive boat Saturday. I possibly might also make a dive at Breakwater on Sunday. We need to get this thing rolling to be a success.

What with a remodel of our house in Humboldt, our son's wedding in Monterey, and a week up in Washington for work and diving, I'm kind of behind. September 15 and 16 is as good as any weekend for me. I'll try to make it, but can't make any guarantees at this time.

Any further word? I was planning to come out, but Louisiana is a long way from Monterey if this happening is still a bit iffy.

At this point we should decide Sept 15th and 16th is the date and get an idea of who is going to come. It doesn't have to take a lot of organizing. I will be there and will bring a folding table and a couple of camp chairs.
We'll need a canopy or two for shade. I don't have one.
We can go out together for dinner, if people want to. I can make a reservation or we can just go somewhere for pizza, or order pizza delivery to the Breakwater.
Let's get a count! So far, it's 1.
Jerry?
