Jaybird, I'm not sure I would breathe off the "HydroTwin-IV." "Bombardment Chamber"? That's where my tongue would be. John

I recently picked up NED relabeled Hydro Twin also. Mine is the unbalanced version. I'm going to have a few questions on rebuilding this reg as I am a rookie at this. The first one is Do I have to remove the can from the body thus destroying the gasket (# 58 on the exploded view) or can I leave them attached. If I do separate the can and body can I just go to my local auto parts store and get gasket material to make a new one? BTW I picked some NOS parts from Vintage Double Hose.

I personally prefer an old bike inner-tube--no really! This isn't in the very least critical, so long as it's nontoxic and watertight... The Healthways body gasket is, on the other hand, kinda critical on its thickness, otherwise things don't fit together very well. Yer gunna love workin' on it: pretty amazing reg in its simplicity JB

I removed the can from the body when I first started working on my Hydro Twin. I then used ShoeGoo and the old gasket (which did not hold up well, and put them together, and I have never had them apart since. So no, you don't have to remove the can to service the regulator, yes you can use gasket material to make a new one, and you probably should do that rather than what I did, as I'm not sure mine will now come apart. A rubber gasket made out of a suitable material would not be hard to make...

Never knew Studebaker made pick-ups. I could not read the script on the chrome and guessed International, learn something new everyday. Mark Studebaker did some cool things. That truck is a ‘56 model, and my grandfather was a Studebaker factory trained mechanic in those days. That was long before my time, but as a little kid I played with a wind-up bullet nose Studebaker car. It was a promo given to him during one of his training schools at the Studebaker factory.

Studebaker made 4x6 and 6x6 trucks during WWII which were mostly exported to Russia via the Lend Lease program. They were 2.5 and 5 ton heavy haulers that were well suited to the (then) Soviet Union's poor road system.

Thanks for the info guys. JB I had never thought of using an inner tube but can see how it would work very well.

Thanks for the info guys. JB I had never thought of using an inner tube but can see how it would work very well. Just as bailing wire is to motor vehicles, inner tubes are to scuba gear: Here's how to close up old CO2-detonator ports JB
