If you look at the number of wins of the purchasers of these items recently, they havent much experience in the vintage market. They are paying WAY too much for this stuff. A superb ROYAL ought to go in the area of 325/350.00 If these guys have more money than brains thats not our fault. I bought a super nice ROYAL for 175.00 not long ago. All it needed was a tune up. Is it it worth 450, or 500.00 dollars? NO! and when these guys that lay out that BIG money for common stuff realise how much they overpaid they will kick themselves with a rocket fin. There will always be plenty of all these old regs, so enjoy the fun and dont get serious, or it will cost you a lot more than its worth in enxiety, and MONEY!

This is Economics 101, supply and demand, you see a lot of DA's on ebay, but super clean RAMs with the "big knob" are not an everyday thing. I bet we see one go above $600 before the end of the year. The # of people that become interested in vintage diving grows each year, but the last double hose was built when, '75? Add to that US Divers bringing out a $900 "double hose", and $500 for a RAM is a value!
The last RAM (round lable, tire yoke) I sold went for $290 about 6 months ago, I bought it at a marine flea market in the late 80's for $5. ;D

So $500.00 for a Royal is a value. There will be royals and everything else for years to come. Setting values on this stuff from a couple of auctions on ebay is hooey. If that is what a royal is worth Ill sell you my personal 1965 Royal for $525.00 overhauled, with original factory option long yoke installed on it. Snap it up and Ill laugh all the way to the bank. By the way way one more thing. Who says these royals are such hot stuff. More glitz! Yesterday I dove my 55 DA NAVY TYPE and left the Royal in the bag. It breathes just super, and is a joy of a regulator! Who are these guys downgrading aquamasters. if they were so bad, why did they sell so many? Dont believe all the stuff you read. If you like it, buy it, and if the price is too high........ well, the right one meant for you will come along soon. Chuck

Hi
What exactly are these people paying for as the majority of double hose regulators all breath the same with the exception of a few model correct. I think these high prices are payed out by new comers to the antiques diving equipment collecting addiction and have been bitten by the Ebay bug at first.

I am not saying that 500 bucks for a RAM is a value, I was trying to make a subtle point. US Divers releases a POS regulator that is sort of a double hose and charge in the area of $900, that alone immediately raises the value of the all double hose regulators. Right now the Round label RAM’s are hot, especially if they have the 3200 psi (?) yoke. I had people tell my I was out of my mind to spend $75 buck for a double hose in the 84, that say year I pulled a DW out of the trash dump, someone had just thrown it away.
Will you still find RAM’s cheap, sure at garage sales from people that don’t know the “value”, or if in the next week you see 12 Round label RAM’s all show up on ebay at once. Vintage scuba gear is no different than any other collectable, a ’72 pinto and a ’72 Mach 1 will do all the same thing, but I bet the Mach 1 sells for more. I can’t wait to see this debate 10 years from now!!!

The only problem I have with these prices is it makes it hard for most of us who will actually use it rather than resell it at a profit to acquire one. Several habitual snipers that only bid in the last minute too.

That new usd reg will never be a classic 100 years from now. It was a mistake. It has no bearing on our vintage stuff prices. If it sold for 150.00 would a RAM go down to 100.00? I doubt it. What goes up, must come down. Ill say it again, just because some guy with a lot of money impulsivly pays too much for something, dosent mean similar items are worth as much, unless there are similar fools who do the same. Keep your money in your pockets guys. Theres plenty of stuff waiting for you soon. Chucko

Hi
I see a new mistral is up on Ebay now with a buy it now for $800 I wouldn't be suprised if it fetched $1000 just because of the convenience of on line shopping.

I wonder if what I have heard is true, that scooter divers are discovering these double units? What I read somewhere and I cannot find it at the moment, it was on a FAQ I think for the machines, that double hose where good for scooters because the sense diaphram rides in your wake and does not try to free flow from the forward movement. I think also that one thing, several things driving the RAM price is that maybe people are not so dumb, they have discovered that the RAM has the best parts supply, that they perform on par with many modern regs, there are no bubbles in the face, they don't freeze, possibly superior for scooters. Well, mine are not for sale, I am keeping my dynamic duo, but if I can figure out how to afford one I might buy a scooter so I can keep up with Gomez next time he takes off up Crystal River to Hospital Hole and leaves me in his wake, I am going to hit the triggers and ZOOOM!!!! D rings and all! James

I doubt those 79 dollars scooters are good for much more than kiddy toys in a pool though I figure taking it apart would be fun after it quits working. James
