Sea Hunt Forever Equipment...- The Smallest Details - The cast isn't actually required to wear a depth gauge... Simply because the ones that are correct for the Sea Hunt TV Show are just too rare much less do they still work. The Sportsways "dial" depth gauge is the best known gauge for appearing on Mike Nelson's wrist. This one (below) is a 150 ft model. Apparently the 75 ft model is more true to the show. - You might ask, "What about those scenes where Mike Nelson is diving as deep as 180 feet?". Well, the truth is almost everything in the Sea Hunt show was filmed no deeper than 30 feet or less for the better lighting conditions. Silver springs is maximum 33 feet deep right at the bottom. They simulated depth by showing Mike Nelson swimming down over and over again from different angles. Sometimes when a scene shows divers swimming level, they might only be a few feet from the surface. Sometimes you can even see the surface in the background. - The Sportsways gauge is a unique instrument. Notice that it has no needle. Instead, it has a face with a window in it. And behind the window a dial moves to indicate the depth. The Sea Hunt Forever Show is part of the Florida Springs Fest on Saturday and Sunday, March 2-3, 2019. Our cast of about 20 divers will be re-enacting underwater scenes from the 1960s Sea Hunt TV Show. Visitors to the park can watch the underwater show from glass bottom boats. During the last Sea Hunt Forever re-enactment I tested my Sportways "face dial" depth gauge. It read a bit less than 20 feet at the very bottom, where the actual depth is a bit over 30. Oh well, I wasn't counting on it actually working, but it would have been a nice touch. I am sorry I can't make it this year. I still have all my gear (show correct) ready to go from the last event, but it is going to have to wait to the next time. Have a great time!

Sea Hunt Forever EquipmentThe Only DPV Scooter Allowed...- The PortaSub divers scooter played a part in several Sea Hunt TV Episodes. Above is Sea Hunt Jerry Lang with his totally restored Voit PortaSub. Since these are awfully rare... especially in diving condition... We count ourselves lucky to have Jerry's PortaSub appearing in the SHF show. - We may see two of them swimming together this year as I think Roger and Rob have finished restoring a second PortaSub and (I hope) they'll bring it to Sea Hunt Forever. The Sea Hunt Forever Show is part of the Florida Springs Fest on Saturday and Sunday, March 2-3, 2019. Eben, if your new wetsuit makes you look like that, I'm going to have to rearrange some of the motel room assignments at Sea Hunt Forever.

Her face looks like a photoshop of Scarlett Johanssen's face on the wetsuit model. There's something hinky about the picture. Just ain't right. But, good choice!!!

I was just about to say... This company must have a fair amount of advertising funds if the Black Widow was advertising for them LOL!

They used to have a picture of Allan Klauda in the Elios Vintage suit and wearing vintage gear and double hose. I wonder which picture sold more suits... Since we are not allowed to show manufacturer's logos, I was able to order my Elios suit without the Elios logo.

I’m asking because I’m thinking about bringing wetsuits back to the Aquala line. We haven’t done them since the early ‘60s, and I’m wondering if I can be competitive with a US made suit.

If you go to the website for Otter Bay Wetsuits here in Monterey (http://www.otterbaysuits.com/Otter_Bay_Wetsuits/Welcome.html) you will get an idea of what people are willing to pay for a quality product. Otter Bay Wetsuits, formerly Monterey Bay Wetsuits, is a family business that has been around for a long time. I bought a drysuit there in 1991 that was top quality (and I only got rid of it because it shrank a bit as I got older and I had to get a larger size).
So, please start making vintage suits before I am too old to enjoy one.

Ever since Mark Kettenhoffen retired from the wetsuit business I've gotten my wetsuits at JMJ in Torrance, CA. Very high quality comfortable warm suits. I think they're going for around $500 now. Here is their website. Mark www.jmjwetsuits.com/products/farmer-john-and-jacket/16

Jim, Mark...thanks for the feedback and links. I’m pretty serious about this, so serious that I made a couple of prototypes and I’m diving them in Cayman this week. I haven’t dove a beaver-tail suit since I was 12 years old back in 1984, and I forgot how easy they are to put on. Also being able to take the jacket off during a surface interval is priceless. Why did we ever get away from them? I’ll never dive a one piece, back zip suit again...like ever.

I posted it above. - In response to your comment above, I agree. Since I had my first repro vintage style suit made by JMJ, I was saving these suits for special events. Then a couple of years ago we were going up to Fortune Pond and the weather was forecast to be 40 degrees, cloudy, windy, etc... Terrible for putting on a wet wetsuit for repetitive dives. So, I brought along three wet suits so I'd have a dry one for each dive. One of these was the vintage "Sea Hunt" suit. I wore it with my usual hooded vest, slippers, and gloves... And it was every bit as warm as my regular back zip suit. But really, why wouldn't it be?
