Did a beach dive solo this afternoon. Tide was going out and wind came up so a few small wave sets. Lost one of my Apollo Bio-Fins in about a foot of water when I stepped in a sand channel and twisted my ankle. All churned up so couldn't find it. Undaunted, I one-finned it out to sea. Made it out to about 40' of water but found myself swimming in a large circle. Vis was good at about 25' lateral. Spent an hour blowing bubbles then came back in. Spent some time in the surf zone looking for my fin but nothing. Got dressed, put my gear away and took one last look out to sea about an hour after getting out of the water. There, in the surf, was a straight black edge the kept bobbing up and down. Ran into the surf with my clean pants on and picked up my lost fin. Yay, day not a total bummer. M

Wonderful! You got a dive, figured out how to dive with one fin, and then found the fin. And...25 feet of visibility! I haven't seen that since Maui!
I'm kinda envious, as I'm pretty much land-bound for at least another week, healing from my hernia surgery.
'Glad some of us got out and wet!

Very nice. 'Glad you're getting out there and enjoying the water. It looks like Southern California. Is that right? Lots of lobsters sounds like a really fun dive. We have diving conditions here, but I"m land-bound and held together by stitches and Super Glue. I'll be heading out for a walk soon. While I cannot yet get wet, I did take my camera out to get fall photos. Here's one to enjoy: _MG_6695 by John Ratliff, on Flickr John

I took my trusty Kraken out for a 75 minute dive off the beach this morning here in Laguna. Water is warm and vis was 25'+. Wish I had my GoPro with me as 4 dolphins played with me and thought it great fun to stick their snouts through the hose loop and pull my mouthpiece out of my mouth. That lasted about 10 min then they grew bored and swam off. Little s**t heads. Kraken kicken back after my dive.

That view looks heavenly as I sit and sadly consider the cooling days and chilly water temps at the lakes and quarries currently available as dive options for me here in western NC.

This was the view this morning of what is normally the surf zone taken from our upper deck. Flat calm and crystal clear. Had to do a dive!

Not sure I follow? The marks on the can are just battle scars from my crawling under ledges looking for lobster.

Wow that looks great. It can’t be calm like that very often?

Out spearfishing with my 14-021 Kraken today. Had an hour's dive. Depth varied from 35 feet to 60 feet. Visibility about 30 ft. Water temperature 57 degrees. Saw lots of baby Lobster and itty bitty fishies. Nothing worth grabbing or shooting. Had fun anyway. As usual, my Kraken performed flawlessly!

Ocean finally calmed down enough for a beach dive so I went for a solo dive off Laguna this morning. Spent 57 minutes on a single steel 71.2 tank in 20 to 40 feet of water. 20 foot viz. Saw a Sevengill Shark (Notorynchus cepedianus) for the first time off Laguna. It was about 6 to 7 feet long and paid zero interest in me. Dove my Voit NAVY Phoenix/HPR as I didn't feel like messing around testing any recently rebuilt regs. Just wanted to have a nice pleasant no-hassle dive. I succeeded!

P.S. I'll probably go out again in the morning [Sunday 7/26] so if anyone is looking to dive Laguna let me know! Mark
