Is the GL valve too short from the yoke to the box to fit? It looks like your Scuba has the long valve, so I was wondering if the extra length made the difference. If so, that would mean a lot of Scubas would not fit since most have short valves.

The cans are also "deeper" than the SCUBA cans so they stick out further. Not sure how else to explain it. Since my Mistral fits just fine with that HW backpack and the Mistral cans are pretty similar to the GL cans, I have to assume that it is the distance from the can to the yoke that makes the difference. M Nope, the top box of the Gold Label is concave (or convex, depending upon your viewpoint), which makes the yoke stike out further. It also has to do with the air flow of the Venturi, I believe, which is pointed toward the top of the intake horn. This allows the air blast to travel up further in the hose due to the curvature of the hose. Now, concerning my own dive today, which actually was October 28, 2020, but which I have just released the video for, here it is. John

Now, concerning my own dive today, which actually was October 28, 2020, but which I have just released the video for, here it is. John John, I stand corrected. The distance from the cans to the yoke are the same on both regulators.
On both the Gold Label and the SCUBA I measured the distance between the face of the top can at its furthest protrusion, and the flange where the yolk mates up to the o-ring of the tank valve. That distance on my SCUBA is 3.0 inches. That same distance on my Gold Label is 3.25 inches. That extra 1/4 inch on the GL will not permit it to be used properly with my HW backpac.
I then measured the distance from the back of the bottom can to the yoke on both regs and it is the same. Turns out the depth of the SCUBA cans is 1/4" less than the depth of the GL cans.
Your river dive is interesting. Looks like lots of neat stuff to see. I did several swift-water rescue dives in the American River with the Sacramento Sheriff's SAR team back in the 80s but they were not pleasant dives. Many years ago I put on a mask and snorkel and spearfished for trout in a stream in the High Sierras but I don't think that counts. I did cross the Nile in a Felucca once (actually twice as I had to return the same way). But I digress.... Nice dive!

I see. I'd forgotten that the GL box pushes out pretty far (convex) rather than slightly concave like the Scuba/Deluxe. So the short valve Scuba/Deluxe models will have even more clearance, right?
Mistral top boxes are flat, and it looks like mine with a short yoke is even shorter.

Your pack is a "dogbone", right? Here's a later plastic bp with the handle cut off for DH clearance. Note the modern criss-cross web routing!

The bottom box of the original Healthways Scuba are a lot shallower than the Scuba Deluxe and the Gold Label Scuba too. I think this is the same backpack you're concerned about. John

I noted you recently logged into our secret squirrel SHF board. (Yes, I know everything!). I do that every so often to reminisce about what good times we had (and to think about plans for the future!)[/div] Mark
[/quote] Yeah; every once in awhile I log into The SHF message board to see if there are any new posts or pictures. Sure would like to be there right now at one of those events. Everyone stay safe and healthy, and a very Merry Christmas to all! Terry

There's got to be a bunch of rubber under those 1 1/2" hose ends to fit a Dacor mouthpiece.

Tape is the most versatile material ever. I call duct tape (duck tape) 90 mile per hour tape 'cause it can withstand speeds well beyond 90mph!
There are more elegant solutions, but the stuff works.
I've been using some slightly oversized (at the horn end) 1" replacement hoses for HW, Dacor, and the like. These are regs with 1" mps. My HW, H-P, and Dacor mps are bigger than the horns, so no problem there.
On the other end, I've been using some heat shrink tubing over 3D printed expanders (5/8" long x 1/32" thick (?) cylinders that slip over the horn (by James: thanks, bud!). I run some RTV over the horn, slip the expander on and put a bit of heatshrink tubing over it all. I hit it with heat and let it dry. Seems to work well.

Took the AK out for a beach dive today. Water down to a nippy 57 F which is about the limit of my 5mm suit. Had fun. Going back out in the morning. Mark
