I find the Dacor R-1,2,3 "Dial-a-Breath" DH regulators to be pretty misunderstood and undervalued as well... Thankfully there are these kinds of regs to be had because I would never have gotten into this sport if I had to pay what they were actually worth. I think their quirkiness is half the fun: it's like using a manual transmission while driving and learning to deal with the idiosyncrasies of each. JB

I also like the oddball, not popular, unusual, and challenging. I also like the ones that just work from the get-go. There is so much to be interested in here! Fascinating. Name your poison!

The R-3 Dacor Dial-a-Breath regulator was tested in Antarctic conditions down to something like -67 degrees F in the 1960s. It's not the best-breathing regulator, but for reliability, it simply would be difficult to beat. I have used mine, and my R-4, in both the pool and open water. John

I could see me getting a Dacor double hose in the future...? (Not anytime soon, so please don't bombard me with "I know where this is one..." right now, ha!) But yeah, I like how they look, Some day I would love to have an early 60's Voit Double Hose, but I still gravitate towards the "other" makers. I wonder if this forum has "influenced" other Divers to look at the "other" Scuba Gear makers? Other than me... Mark

The Dacor R-4, C-2, C-3, C-3N double hosers are also good regs that just don't seem to get any respect. They do have issues, mainly the second stage and lever system, but they are pretty good performers. They are at least as good as a DA, performance-wise, and they are easy to work on. But again, parts for these are becoming difficult/impossible to find. So we're back to Herman's assessment: even a good model regulator with great breathing characteristics isn't going to be popular unless you can readily maintain it. Here's a couple of pics of the rare and misunderstood Misuba Rev5 Balanced? single stage regulator with Commie hoses and a Hope-Page mouthpiece. It features the JB SnorkelJet, a balanced? Healthways Scuba valve with Conshelf guts all up in it, Mistral cans, a DBE, and a silicone main diaphragm. Even though all the repair parts are readily available, the Misuba Rev5 Balanced? has not achieved the popularity it deserves! Strange.... Even if it has a Dacor yoke screw on it!

JB Which is why it pays to stealth lurk across the back rooms of the internet, garage sales and old dive shops. I have 7 Voits total (6 rebuilt and divable). Three were given to me by dive shop staff, two I got off ebay as a package for $35 total, and two I found in a garage sale for $1 each. Maybe I should just sell them all and retire.

I believe that ANY rebuilt, dive-able doublehose regulator should cost at least $350. And the more desirable ones should go for up to $1000. Very rare regs, more.
All of them are rare, historical relics. Some are mediocre, some are better, great, more available, rare, pristine/ok/ugly, have new/NOS/used parts, have better parts availability, etc. All of that should create a differential in asking price, as is the case with any collectible.

I'm glad people think they're dangerous, I'd never spend that kinda dough on one!
