Progress has been made! Here is my Healthways SCUBA with Hope-Page Mouthpiece fitted. The black rubber mouthpiece is from a single hose Healthways reg, that is long past it's prime. It is on there only temporary. Need to find an extra metal band clamp, but the work it took to get this one on was immense and I don't think it is going anywhere? If needed, by Summer if a proper metal band can't be located, I'll reluctantly use a "zip-tie". First World Problems and all... Anyway...until i can find blue hoses, this is getting closer to circa 1957-1959. Mark 72158208_2875957829122811_789188206141636608_o by Mark Lodge, on Flickr

This is what I was/am looking for a "Natural Gum Rubber" brown mouthpiece by Trident for. If anyone has an NOS one lurking about please let me know. It looks like Trident discontinued them a year or two back. Mark

Metal hose and mouthpiece clamps that look right should be pretty easy to make. Stainless sheets are available on eBay, etc. I might give it a try since I'm missing lots of the Healthways hose clamps. Sometimes OEM clamps don't fit the new hoses, so making ones just a hair bigger would be good.
I can't remember ever seeing a metal clamp on a Hope-Page, but I'd guess they had them.

Now that you mentioned it...I have not seen a band/clamp on a Hope-Page mouthpiece either, we are talking only photos in my case. The effort it took to get the mouthpiece on the Hope-Page makes me safe feeling this is not going anywhere? But then again, better safe than sorry. Mark

I just tried to fit a mp band from a Waterlung (probably) regulator, but it is too small. Perhaps the mp I have on the H-P is thicker than another might be? But it won't close.

Does anyone know if the H-P used any kind of clamp to retain the bite piece and if so, what kind? In the couple of pictures I could find of what might be H-Ps with original rubber don't appear to have a clamp. Catalog pics seem to back this up, too.

John and Mark and I were having this conversation, John said they do use one, but now that I'm looking, I have to disagree: here it was glued on: OK, now check out Miss Juicy on the right, nope, no clamp! The original-style MP on my Divair doesn't need one as it fit's super snug: JB

With the amount of effort it took to get a mouthpiece on my Hope-Page, I can't see it going anywhere! It is on there tight! Mark

Okay, I checked a number of resources. The drawing of a diver using a Healthways Scuba regulator on the cover of The New Science of Skin and Scuba Diving, by the Conference for National Co-Operation in Aquatics (1957, 1959, 1962 version) does not show a clamp on the mouthpiece, even though it does for the hoses.
Also, Fred Roberts, in his book, Basic Scuba, has a parts diagram for the Hope-Page mouthpiece on page 117 of the book under "Figure 3-19. Explodede view and parts list of the Scuba regulator (1957-1960). Courtesy Healthways." It does not show either the hose clamps or a clamp on the mouthpiece. The Divair regulator in the same book shows an exploded diagram of the Divair Hope-Page mouthpiece, with the hose clamps showing, but no mouthpiece clamp (Figure 3.9)
So, looking at this, it appears that the mouthpiece clamp was not used on the Scuba regulator. But I have a number of Healthways single hose regulators, and all have a clamp of some sort, and four of mine have metal mouthpiece clamps.
Finally, guess what? I found an "extra" Healthways mouthpiece clamp in my sorted equipment case! So Mark, if you want it, I'll send it to you.
John

Even if I don't use it on this Hope-Page, I'm sure I will have a need for a HW mouthpiece clamp in the future, so yes...I would love to have another one! Thanks Mark

John, thanks for posting I've mentioned it before, but I think your duckbill may be the "improved" version before coming out with the Scuba Deluxe. It'll be fun to make some like this. JB

JB Yes, you are correct, there were two different duckbills in the original Healthways Scuba regulator. The other was a two-tone, with I think Orange on the inside that went from round to a tapered duckbill without fancy undulations. Somewhere I have a photo of it, but right now I'm cleaning out my documents folder by copying it into a archieve disc, then I need to delete the ones in my documents folder to free fup memory. John
