That bathyscape reminds me of the old TV show, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea: when they'd submerge you'd see the big bubbles coming up through the big window in the front of the boat. That would be really cool to see in real life!

John, you're thinking of Fantastic Voyage, that was pretty rhud-iku-luss! I found this image of one of the actors, check out his regulator! It's the second gen 1665 Scubair! I may have to watch this show again: only the first season is any good, just like Lost in Space. JB

OK, here's an episode:
It does show them actually using their gear in water, BUT... at around 14-minutes they start talking... over a radio, in water, at depth, very clearly--maybe it's magic that they use for this, cuz they ain't got no radios when they leave!

I think John’s statement about Journey to the Bottom of the Sea is correct.

Voyage had the big windows in the front of the sub and the bubbles when it submerged. Apparently there were two Fantastic Voyage series; one animated (starring the voice of Ted Knight) and the one you referenced. I never saw either of them because I was overseas on active duty. (snort!)

(snort!) CJ, I was in Okinawa/Korea in 1968-69. I missed these too. John

Why vintage scuba diving for me? I don't know, i just like it. I tend to gravitate towards older things anyway, been like that all my life. Once I started actually diving vintage regulators, and started to dive without a BC, to get used to a J-Valve, etc., that sealed the deal. I can't recall that last time I dove modern gear? Mark I’m kind of like Mark, always been drawn to older things. Before vintage dive gear, I collected old radios, jukeboxes, restored a few toasters, drove a ‘57 Chevy Belair, and scrounged the country side looking for old signs, gas pumps and other curiosities. I always thought vintage dive gear was cool, but never thought it could be functional again and I like to use my old things. With the availability of resto/repro parts in the last ten years, that changed the game. Now regs can be rebuilt and used with confidence.

Yeah, I collected old Honda motorcycles (still have a couple), VW bug stuff (still got some parts), old computers (still have a few), early model airplane radio control (still have some very early equipment), and a few other things. I don't understand why I'm interested in what I'm interested in, but WTH? It's probably nostalgia. I get into stuff that I had or lusted after as a kid, or young adult, probably.
But, then, there's stuff I never had or wanted back in the day that sends the "Ping!"

Okay, here's a couple of photos of my scuba collections: IMG_1440 by John Ratliff, on Flickr These are regulators that I have up on the wall in my dive shed (which I built myself, when my company shut down for two weeks per month in the mid-2000s). Double hose, left to right: Mossback Mk3, Healthways Scuba Hybrid, USD DW Mistral (top), Healthways Gold Lable (below), DA Aqualung (top, divable), Dacor Dial-a-Breath (slightly below), DX Overpressure Breathing (working and divable). Single hose, left to right: AMF Voit 40 Fathom (not working currently), Calypso (original and 2nd generation, working), USD Calypso-J (working), (almost hidden) White Stag DEEP, MR-12 (also hidden, Professional Aquamatic (working, top), Aqualung ______ (I'll have to go out and see again, this is a modern reg), Dacor Dart II and Dacor Dart. IMG_1439 by John Ratliff, on Flickr These are my collection of tanks, including my UDS-1 and my two Dacor Nautilus systems. Regulators, back to front, Snark III, on twin Al 45s; Dacor R-4 on orange twin steel 52s (USD); Dacor Nautilus' with two Dacor regulators (Enduro, I think); my twin 42 steel tanks (currently cannot dive, with a valve problem); AMF Voit Trieste II on my twin steel 45s; and a single 72 (orange tank). Behind are a pair of Fara-Fins and a Dol-Fin monofin I've had for years. I took the monofin into the pool early this year (before they were closed) and found out why I had not swam with them recently--they hurt! John

So, as much as I love a JB inspired off-topic post (don't stop, my friend!), let's get back to the point. What made you participate in this vintage dive gear forum? I like DH regulators. I like modding DH regulators, and I like modding single hosers to DH. I like adding ports to DH regs, and I like to increase the efficiency of DH regs.
