I have used a USD pin in the Snark III, but it has a different pin than the Silver. The III pin is a maybe bit more robust than the USD pin, having a longer thick end: But I think the USD pin is thicker in the narrower part than the USD? Don't remember, but it looks like it in the above picture. As I recall (red lights flashing, klaxons going off) the Snark III and USD pins were close in thickness, but the USD needed length trimming? I never ended up using the USD pin because I found a jar of Snark pins at the PoAWT (place of all wonderful things), and replaced it with the correct pin. This might not be relevant to your problem. I know the Silver pin was different.

OK OK I will upload some Sea Hornet pics now I have the hang of image hosting on this board In the meantime, this is a 3D CAD rendering of the type of HP Pin #2988 I have in my Snark III. I suspect the type you have shown will fit the spare later HP seat I have...

10.50mm overall length, 2mm thick x 4mm long at the thick end, 1.50mm thick x 6.50mm at the thin end. Hope this helps!
Interestingly, I'm getting a 2mm-ish distance between the nozzle end and the pin carrier when installed on the Snark III, and the USD DAAM clearance is about .040" (1.016mm). Big difference...

I have 2 books on the Snark 3. One lists the proper IP as being 130 psi @ 2500 psi tank pressure. At this setting IP should be 120 psi @3000, 150 @ 1500, 160 @ 1000, 170 @ 500, and 175 @ 300. This book says to set the OPV to vent at 210. The other book says the IP should be set at 125, the only mention of tank pressure is under diagnostics and they say test on a tank pressure of 500 psi. This book says the OPV should bleed off pressure above 150, and to set it at such. I think Phils suggestion to set it at 120 on a 1000 psi tank is right on. That should put it at about 130 at 500. I would also be very leery of using it on a tank over 3000 psi. I set the IP on one of mine @ 130 on a 2250 psi tank. I put it on another tank with 800 psi to see where it was, to my surprise still 130. I breathed off the reg until the "J" valve reserve limited airflow, it never budged. I left it on a full tank overnight with the air on, in the morning it was still 130. I shut the air off 8 hours later it was still 130. Why, I have no idea but it breathes great. I will agree that the Snark 3 is a great breathing reg. One of mine is the best breathing reg I've ever used Okay, I suspect that you have a balanced first stage! Someone either changed this regulator's first stage, or you have something I didn't think existed, a balanced Snark III. I know that a group that was on Facebook from Turkey made a brand new first stage for the Snark, which they called the Snark IV, which incorporated LP and HP ports, and may also have been balanced. Let us know a bit more about this regulator, please. John PS, I just found this history of the Snark III on the CG45 website: www.cg-45.com/regulators/Nemrod/John- I cant offer too much more on this reg. When I opened it up it looked fairly clean inside so I hooked it up to a tank and it worked. I pulled the first stage out put a new HP diaphragm in it and put it back together. This is the one that was missing parts of the OPV, I modified it to use a 3/8-24 OPV and Sherwood minimus + downstream second. I never took the first stage apart.
