I'd like to see pics of the flow through piston first stage parts! Those pictures are coming. The flow-through piston is really well-made, from an aerodynamics standpoint. There is a "V" shape in the top of the first stage end cap which routes air toward the LP openings, and those openings are cut so as to be more aerodynamically "good" (for lack of a better word) in reducing turbulences. I now have this regulator, the DEEP II, completely torn down and ready for a bath. There was a little corrosion inside the end cap, which is pretty normal for piston regulators. The second stage is the same as my DEEP I, is a Lexan(R) case. In order to separate the LP hose from the second stage, and the second stage orifice from the body, two wrenches must be use so as not to put any pressure on the plastic housing. But the interior was clean, other than a slight buildup on the diaphragm (which is silicone) stainless plate. But this will clean up very nicely. Pictures to follow. John I think this is a DeepStar II? Let's start a new thread on this regulator. I don't think this has been discussed on this board? It sounds like a really good singlehoser.

For those of you wondering where I've been for the last two days, the answer is here. IMG_1485 by John Ratliff, on Flickr I took a nasty fall on my bicycle yesterday, and got help from three very nice people on the trail. It is a paved trail that I travel, and I was trying to cross a road from one small hill to another, and since there is an offset in the trail entries, I had to make a turn. I wanted to get home fast, so I didn't break on the downhill (I've done that many times), but I was on a different bicycle, and it had different characteristics. For one, it went faster. Bottom line, I almest made it to the other trail entrance, but was about 6 inches short, and hit a fouranch curb. So yesterday, rather than attending our on-line church service, Chris and I spent the better part of the day in the ER at Providenc St. Vincent Hospital. I'm better now, but look pretty terrible. I have the facial cuts and roadrash, a bruised rib on the left side, and road rash on my left knee. My glasses caused the cuts, and one was repaired with glue and the other with five stitches. My helmet saved me a concussion, and so I'm urging everyone to use my photo to say that "Helmets work" because I'm up and smiling, even with the injuries. No majer damage or broken bones though (although the CAT scans did show broken ribs in a location that didn't hurt--old injuries from a bike crash over twenty years ago). I won't be wearing a diving mask for the next few weeks, or any mask other than a cloth covering. I will be posting again, and will start a thread of the White Stag regulators. But that's for another day. My keyboarding is hindered in that I have a number of small cuts on the fingers of my right hand, where it impacts the keyboard, and that is what hurts most of all. But this is about it for today. That was my Covia19 activity Sunday, May 3rd. Cenco de Mayo, everyone. John

Get well soon, John. My brother fell off his bike many years ago when he was out alone and I was visiting him. When he got home and I obviously showed concern about his bloodied appearance, he just gave me one of those "don't ask" looks, knowing that I wanted details! Good for you, telling us what happened.

Well, I'm healing. Feeling better, and getting back to normal. I'll be growing a beard for the first time since the 1980s as my face recovers. IMG_1490 by John Ratliff, on Flickr THe cap is from our local dive club, and since we keep our house cool, it felt good to wear it. Shortly, I'll be gutting together some information on the White Stag regulators that I have, the DEEP I and DEEP II. John

John, sorry to hear about this! About 30-years ago my buddy and I were at an old coal mine now called Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve: the road there was so steep we couldn't ride it up: as a stupid kid I rode it down. What stopped me at the bottom was a barbed wire fence. I have scars that run up my back and stop at my hairline, where the helmet was I'm glad you can still smile: I had sprained my neck and back JB

Sorry to hear about (and see!) your accident. I'm also a bicyclist, and worry about the inevitable crash(es). Fortunately, most of my accidents have been at 0-2 mph (unable to unclip, etc.) I hope the healing up will be quick!

Sorry to hear about John's bike accident. In my line of work I see lots of them, usually car/truck versus bicyclist. Usually the bike rider loses the confrontation. If you want to sue yourself I'm looking for new business. I crashed an ultralight aircraft with a Rotax engine into a fast food drive-through parking lot in about 1983. That hurt. I had just replaced my gravity-fed fuel line "Y" connector with a new one and the dumb-ass avionics shop where I bought it had packaged their own using water line plastic rather than fuel-grade polymer. The gas disintegrated the connector as I was on my downwind approach for landing in an adjacent field cutting off my fuel supply. Oh well, enough about the good old days when I was immortal. Sitting here watching the Pacific. Severe red tide so viz is zero. The dinoflagellates are having a good time though. Our town just opened our beaches for "active use" only (no sitting or just standing) Monday through Friday only and 6am to 10am only. They are experimenting to see if folks obey. I've rambled on long enough. Stay Safe! Mark

It's my understanding that if you do a night dive in such conditions even your slightest movement will cause everything to glow around you Sounds totally boss to me. I did a painting of a night scene at San Simeon Beach of the dino-flatulents dinoflagellates: it took me a while to figure out how to recreate the lighting effect it but it looks great: Sagittarius and Scorpius are in the night sky... Yes, but then there is that ZERO visibility aspect... Well, I'd do it because: A: it was something to do B: because I could and to see what the experience was like I like to write sci-fi stories and it sounds like good fodder for who knows where or when JB

I did my last qualifying dive for my open water cert in Monterey (say 1968?) in a red tide. Couldn't see your hand in front of your face. Scary.

Since I have plenty of spare time with the lockdown in place, I viewed the Vintage gear for sale section this morning. I found, and reported, two ads for vaping products and a link to E-bay "auctions". (PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR EBAY AUCTION ON THIS THREAD!!! It will be deleted!)
