Mark, very cool: I know you'll keep this as stock as possible too You should get some model airplane paint and touch up that label. Looking forward to a side-by-side comparison with that Navy reg JB

Ah, the AquaMaster. The Toyota Corolla of DH regs. They work great, last a long time, and they made a ton of them. I have one I converted to a Phoenix HPR, another one I put a Cyclone and HPR in to make it balanced, and have two more in the to-be-built pile. Remember that yours is unbalanced reg so set IP and the 2nd stage lever height on a 300 psi tank. Good luck. Those are great regs. My 2psi. Mark

Mark, You might have a bit of a problem getting that nut off the LP seat assembly. You'll need to push the lever down so you can get a needlenose pliers under it to stop the seat from turning, then try to get that nut off. They sametimes have been sealed with glue or something else, and if all else fails you'll need to cut it off and get a new one. That was the Navy procedure in the ol' days. They are only $19 from Dan here at VSS. www.vintagescubasupply.com/hoses.htmlJohn

Many of those LP poppet nuts were staked on, look for a indent on the nut at the threads. The best way to remove the nut on the LP poppet to avoid damaging it is to first remove the entire LP assembly. Use a thin screwdriver to remove the 2 screws that hold the lever supports, by the way, those are left and right so they have to go in the correct spots when you reassemble them. You can then work the lever out. If the lever supports were twisted, many were but these don't appear to be which is good, you first need to straighten them as best as you can. With the lever removed, unscrew the entire assembly for access the the bottom side of the poppet. A drop of penetrating oil is a good idea to help the process along. Grab the square part of the poppet and gently turn the nut IN, this helps break the staking. If it moves, rock it in and out until it move freely IN, go in a few turns and then clean up the threads at the end of the stem with a tiny file. After the nut comes off easily, it's a good idea to run a die over the threads to clean them up. The threads are a oddball 5-40, not the more common 4-40. Do not stake the nut when you reassembly the reg, a drop fingernail polish....the color your wife/girlfriend (make sure you don't confuse who the 2 colors belong to)now hates, on the nut after you get it adjusted is all that is needed to keep it in place. The good news is reproductions are available, years ago, a broken one meant the reg was a basket case.
On a different note, if you have duckbill goo stuck in the horn, the easiest way to clean it out is to soak the horn or other gooed up parts in denatured alcohol. Over night it works wonders on that gooy mess, dissolving it away. I don't even bother trying to remove anything but the largest pieces of DB but go straight to soaking it.

While I like to support different Vintage parts suppliers, too, the LP poppet for the HPR with the screwdriver slot on the end and a nyloc nut is a big improvement and makes adjustments much easier. I believe they are $15 from VDH. vintagedoublehose.com/store/#!/Updated-second-stage-seat-holder/p/24561007/category=1964152

I have the service kit from VDH on the way. I'm going to see how it goes using the one in the reg, I have not had the time to mess with it, other than what you have seen so far. Mark

And as much as I want to keep this circa 1958-1959...I got a clamp ring for it! Mark

Yes, the case ring is a big upgrade. The clips are stock, and purists love them, but if you want to adjust/clean/open your DAAM easily, this is the way to go.
The DAAM is an ordinary, run of the mill performer. My hotrod Scuba Deluxe will blow it out of the water, as will other single stage regs like the Mistral, GL, etc. You can upgrade with HPRs, Cyclones, etc., and it will become a great reg. But, that means a bit of investment in $$$$.

I'm not throwing box clips away, just in case I want to be a purist someday but they are a hassle. I kept the box clips on my DA Navy Approved and that got replaced not too long ago!!! Going with the yellow hoses and mouthpiece of circa 1958 but the box clips...no, they will stay in a ziplock bag cached away. Mark

The ring was an option you could buy from USD in that time frame so it's not really out of place.

It is back together and it works!!! I must have done something right?, because it held air and did not leak the very first time I put it on a tank. Here is how it looks now. In the next couple days I'll work on fine tuning. Mark 107393954_3441090129276242_7623864899216146352_o by Mark Lodge, on Flickr

Looking good! Did you put a new silicone 2nd stage diaphragm in? That does helps WOB. Of course, you can't stop there - balance that puppy by hotrodding it with a Cyclone or Phoenix 1st stage and an HPR 2nd stage. You will be astounded at the increased performance. Don't forget you can then crank up the venturi so better install a DSV to avoid losing all that excess air down your exhaust hose. Of course then there is the DuckBill Eliminator.... oh yeah then you'll need to get the cans re-chromed, and perhaps a new label from Allan.... Don't forget a new crown lable sticker... Oh what the heck, leave it stock, you'll probably have just as much fun anyway....😎
P.S. I just noticed your first photo has a Sea Hunt Forever T-shirt background. Good man! Lots of memories. I have received many calls and emails about when the next show will be. Until this global pandemic thingymabob is resolved, we are on hiatus.
