Hello
Cleaning up a RAM and have a couple of questions of the group:
1. What is the preferred IP setting? Manual say 100psi, read comments up to 140psi?
2. is blue locktite on the second stage nut preferred or a drop of nail polish to hold it in place?
Thanks in advance!

On question #1, 100 psig seems low to me. The IP should be the same as the Aqualung singlehose regulators, as if you get an adaptor from Hermon, you will be putting an octopus on the RAM. Without looking at recommendations, I'd say the range should ne 125-140 psig.
On Q#2, I think loctite is harder to get off. But that is not backed by experience, as I don't use anything to "hold" the nut in place.

I usually set a balanced regulator to 135-145 psi. Loctite is hard to get loose again, and might require heat. Nail polish will hold, but can be broken when needed. I prefer the nylock nut and slotted seat carrier, since you can adjust and readjust easily.

100 is really too low, the manual I have says 115 but I usually set mine to 130-135 which is what I set pretty much all my regs to. This helps a lot if you are using an octo as you can mix and match second stages without having to readjust them. Even though the stage is balanced, its still best to set the IP at low tank pressure, esp if you are setting it up close to the edge as it will vary a little, the balancing is not perfect.
I use finger nail polish, it drys hard and chips off easily, blue LT is a bit gummy. Either will work.....just don't use red.

Agree with Herman. I try to set my RAM at 130-135 PSI and it usually ends up in that range and works great. Not sure where they got the 100 psi IP in the manual. My 2psi. Mark

100-Psig is good for the 1030 Calypso-I because of it's flat second stage seat, or a tilt-valve, and you can get by with it on your reg, but 135 is quite optimal for nearly all down stream valved regulators. So it sounds as if we have a consensus JB

Thanks everyone for the info. Much appreciated! Red, you're most welcome, and thank you for expressing your gratitude: not many people even bother with that anymore, and frankly I find that both embarrassing and irritating! JB

I agree with all that has been said above and all my RAM's are set anywhere from 125 to 140psi ip with very good performance at all tank pressures. The use of the Teflon locking nut and slotted seat holder is also a big help with adjustment without turning the nut. Concerning the 100psi ip in all the manuals I possess I read somewhere that it was printed in error by USD and never corrected!Just my limited input but proven in the field with my regs, good luck and enjoy your RAM!

I know that tis question has been answered before, but will the RAM handle 3000 psi tanks? In unrelated news, a vintage US Divers Aqualung Royal Mistral Double Hose Regulator In Box sold for $631 on Ebay.

With the extended yoke, yes (CJ, I almost typed "yolk" again!), it will handle 3,000 psig, but not much more. John

The last run of Rams actually had a 3000 psi Conshelf yoke. USD called it the "heavy yoke"
