Ty Do you have a body-to-can retaining gasket (#6) in place? There should be a dowel pin (#7) in the body washer (#4). Is yours present? Diagram courtesy VintageDoubleHose.com

If that nut is tightened down pretty tight, and the pin is in place (it's stainless steel, not wood), the nut should not come loose.
One other thing to look at is which Venturi nozzle is pointed directly down the intake hose (it should be directed right down the inhalation horn). If it is the small one, it won't perform as well as if it is the larger hole. AMF Voit pointed the small one down the intake horn, and I think it was purposeful so that it would not out-perform their more expensive double hose (the V66 Navy regulator, a two-stage takeoff on the U.S. Divers Company DA Aquamaster).

I looked didn't see a pin. It is a trieste mounted in a 50 fathom can. Well, that makes a difference. So its not a 50 Fathom. The regulator is a Trieste? In that case, the can must have be modified to accept the Trieste body. If it is still rotating, is the body to can ring tight? Is there a body gasket installed? Was the can modified to provide a stop for the Trieste body? It would help if you posted some photos.

This is a problem with Trieste/Titan II and other first stages (like my Dacor Olympic) mounted in FX (50 Fathom style) cans. There is no key to keep the first stage from rotating in the can. Cinching the ring down tight helps, but it is no guarantee that you won't get misalignment. My Titan II and Olympic conversions will suffer performance-wise if the can is twisted off center. A registration mark on both the reg first and the can helps, but s**t happens when gearing up for a dive. I think this should always be addressed by some sort of locking arrangement. It can present an engineering problem. I made a Titan II/Mistral can conversion which utilized the Titan IIs tab cutout. The FX cans that are cut for Trieste conversions will allow the can to turn. My preference would be to get a set of FX cans for the Mistral and cut them for the Trieste/Titan II with a tab.

A Trieste body in reproduction cans is custom work. Did you do this yourself or did someone else do it? If that is what you have, you need a special tool to properly tighten the ring, there is no good way to do it otherwise. The rubber gasket between the body and can must be compressed to seal the can and to keep the can in place. Without the tool, it's difficult to get the ring tight enough. Photos would help a lot.

I made a Titan II/Mistral can conversion which utilized the Titan IIs tab cutout. Ok, I am intrigued. What tool(s) / method did you use to cut out the metal can with the tab?

Can't you use something like Loctite to secure the cans?
