There are little bits of ash falling from the sky from the other side of the bay: I can smell the smoke and it's not safe to breathe the air outside... BANZAI!JB

My wife's friend who lives in Sacramento said this morning that they are getting ashfall there too. It's traveling over the SF Bay and the Diablo Mountain Range, and up through the San Joaquin Valley. I'm trying to stay focused on positive things right now like where our house isn't. When I met my wife she had a house where the fire is: it may not be there pretty soon.

I cannot give a "thumb's up" for your posts here, as that would not reflect my feelings. As a former Smokejumper, I hear what you're saying, and wish everyone affected the best. Stay indoors if possible. Don't go out to exercise (running, bicycling, etc.). I hope he weather gives you a break. On the plus side, breathing compressed, filtered air from Scuba may be healthier than not diving.

JB No, we need to know what's happening to our members. 'Sorry if I stepped on things here. I then looked at our KOIN 6 News, and saw that there are something like 40 fires ablaze in the northern part of California. I'm just glad you are safe. John

I think John only meant "thumbs upping" this is hard to do since it's such bad news, not that the post wasn't right on!

Funny thing that "like button", I always looked at the likes as, not so much that a person so much likes the subject matter, but that the reader finds the information helpful and informative: gee-whiz, I absolutely hate the subject of my own posting! As a side note: things are so bad that try as I might yesterday, I could not get onto the Cal Fire website... www.fire.ca.gov/I see from the weather site I use that air quality is unhealthy at 133-PPM and UV is very high at 9. Today is actually a bit cooler, perhaps I can get some sleep tonight! Anyway, here is a map of what we've got going on here: We're hemmed in between the SCA, LNU and FRA fires... The SCA which is east of San Jose is almost 138,000 acres JB

Respectfully (and prayerfully), James James, As one who has been in the firefighting world, I agree wholeheartedly, and our prayers are with all you in the Bay Area. JB, I apologize for the mis-communication earlier. When they say something like "5% contained...", that the easy containment at the back of the fire, and usually not the hard to contain front line of the fire. John

John, the SCU fire is in a very difficult to access area: it is chaparral and some parts have nearly vertical walled canyons. At the best of times it's dry. It's a forest of Blue Oak, Gray Pine, Manzanita and Sage Brush: as a smoke jumper I think you'll understand what the terrain is like if I say southern Oregon, like Medford!

James, I see that the NWS predicts your area of the country as having good potential for a hurricane making land. My thoughts will be with you as well JB
