In another post Phil mentioned "rat rog regulators". I figured I'd show a couple of mine. The first one is what I call the Snark III super modified. This is an early Snark III modified to use a banjo for an SPG and to allow LP for BC/OCTO. I use this reg with a Sherwood Shadow+ combination octo and inflator. The Shadow+ is a downstream second so it will act as an OPV in the event excessive IP builds up. IMG_0296 by Skip Yetman, on Flickr IMG_0297 by Skip Yetman, on Flickr

This one is the PhoenixHPRDBEDAAquaNavyApproved. In the illustrious "box of junk" I bought there was a DAAM body in a can. It only had a std second stage in it, everything else was missing. I put a Phoenix first stage, and HPR second in it. I didn't have a DAAM exhaust can so I put DBE in a DA Navy Approved can. The green hoses I had. I've been known to soup up an old jitney.....
Jet drilled through the side of the valve and capped with a stainless steel plate to direct air (mostly) through the jet. It works as well as a GL or Mistral. The Souper Deluxe?

Holy smokes you guys have lost it! These regs should be called Russian as in 'Russian salads' LOL! Well when all else fails just go to your closest Home Depot and head for the plumbing aisle and tell them Jacques sent you!

My most improv looking stuff right now is "Most of A SCUBA" and my youngest's DAAM.
MofAS came to me from Phil, so I could quit bothering him for measurements! It has a printed bell, printed box clamp, printed exhaust diaphragm retainer with Theraband for the diaphragm, SnorkleJet ABS, and is running a loop made up of surplus gas mask hoses and my Nope-Page mouthpiece.
Ryan's DAAM is bone stock inside, right down to a re-surfaced original 1st stage seat. The finish on the cans was trash, so I rattle can plasti-dipped them (except for the inside of the mechanism side can) and printed a label that would match. I put an LP splitter on the hookah port (using pipe tape to seal it) so he can use an octo and an inflator hose. It also has TPU collars on it to make the surplus gas mask hoses fit better, and runs Nope-Page Jr. (with his name on it).
Do these qualify as "Rat Rod Regs"?

Here's the inside of my newly modded Scuba. The air director is a work in progress. I'm going to thread the tube on the inside so various sized jets can be screwed in for tuning.

PY, doesn't the "250' Snark" count as a rat-rod?

Where did you get those cool chrome hose clamps?

I make them out of stainless steel CV joint band material and 5-40 stainless screws/nuts.

PY, doesn't the "250' Snark" count as a rat-rod? JB You might be right, but it isn't modified except for the LP port adapter I made for it. It's more like a good running old clunker than a rat-rod.... This one, (although this version no longer exists) is more representative of the rat-rod:

BTW, I haven't completely given up on the idea that a tube fed air supply could work well on this kind of single hose first stage conversion. It is all about tube bending. Hard to get a small enough arc with what I have to work with. But, something like this?
That's a tight bend. I can't do that, no way, no how. It obviously can be done though....

But there needs to be a baffle plate on the receiving end to move air toward the mouthpiece, and that plate needs to be placed precisely. John

They are excellent regulators, and have a cool factor like a DH. But much less....

I'm kinda surprised nobody has commented on the banjo on the Snark 3

I'm kinda surprised nobody has commented on the banjo on the Snark 3 I noticed the long yoke on there. Sweeeeet. It isn't surprising (to me) to see a long USD yoke on a Snark III since there's so much similarity in the nozzles. I think you and I talked about this a couple of years ago, Skip. Too bad the nozzle threads are different.....Phoenix Snark III? There's a setup like the Phoenix shown on the Turkish vintage scuba site that John found.
