I just got my first Moderna shot today. Next one is in a month. Let's hope this slows the spread! Please consider getting vaccinated so we stop this terrible disease.

I received a phone call from my doctor's surgery on Saturday morning inviting me to attend a vaccination session at a community centre about four miles away. So I jumped into my car and drove down there. Within quarter of an hour I was given the Pfizer vaccine with a second appointment for April. A fifteen-minute wait to check there were no immediate after-effects and I was driving back home. The Pfizer is the vaccine that has to be stored at -70 degrees Celsius, so I was half-expecting to be inoculated amid liquid nitrogen fumes or to end up with a frozen arm, but there was no pain and only a tiny ache at the injection spot in the limb the following day resembling the one I had when I received the flu jab a few months ago. As Vance says, the vaccine is a good move not only to boost each person's immunity system against the virus but also to reduce sources of infection within the national and the world community as an act of human solidarity. DRW, yes, I totally agree with you: that's what's referred to "herd immunity": en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herd_immunityWhat some people don't realize, the ones who are against vaccinations, is that by not getting inoculated they are helping to make these diseases much more drug resistant, and the way in which this particular virus keeps mutating we only have a small window in which to act. I know two people who got COVID-19: one of my wife's best friends has been struggling with complications brought on by it for about a year now. The most terrifying thing about it is that it attacks the weakest point of your immune system, or else maybe that its severity is dependent on your initial viral-load. And, just in case my gallows humor was just a tad bit too dry, my fist comment was meant to be exceptionally sarcastic... JB

My wife and I got our 2nd Pfizer injection yesterday. The first one went exactly as DRW said, but this 2nd one really kicked my tail. I’m over the hump now, and feeling much better but the first 24 hours were rough. I’ll be back to normal tomorrow.

I got my first Moderna shot on Saturd'y: I was lucky in that I didn't have to travel to another county and got it in town. OK here's the really fun part: I got it at "Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center" Why is this so strange? I kid you not; Tiburcio Vasquez was an old time Californio, who was also a bandit: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiburcio_V%C3%A1squezThis is like naming a health center after "Billy the Kid"! JB

Getting my second Pfizer on Wednesday; the first triggered a headache like I’ve never experienced so I’m not looking forward to this week! Although I’m looking forward to next month- just booked a flight to SFO for a 10 day visit 👍🏼

Stephan, just as a heads up: the Bay Area can get COLD! It's not like the cold where you live, but it's a moist nasty cold that permeates everything so it can be difficult to get warm again sometimes. To quote Mark Twain, "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco..." I've had friends from Scandinavia complain about our cold... This is just on the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge: www.nps.gov/muwo/index.htmIf we hadn't had those horrible fires I would highly recommend this place: www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=540Seeing a Sequoia Sempivirons, California Redwood, is a humbling experience: these are the tallest trees in the world and seeing them for the first times is difficult to wrap you mind around. If you don't have time for that though, at least go here: www.nps.gov/goga/planyourvisit/landsend.htmFrom here you can see the Farallon Islands, yep, they're what you gauges are named after! Why are they special? If you know what you're looking at, you can discern the curvature of the Earth: the lower portion of the island is cover/obscured by the horizon. Oh, and look for the big nasty waves of "the potato patch": wikimapia.org/2387010/Potato-Patch-ShoalJB

I am due to have my second COVID-19 injection this Friday. My first was the Pfizer inoculation and the UK National Health Service policy seems to be that the second vaccine used should be the same as the first.
My other ambition in the short term is to get a haircut and beard trim, as I now resemble Father Christmas after four months of non-access to a barber. Today the salons have reopened. The problem remains that everybody else is in the same boat and hairdressers' waiting lists here reportedly stretch as far as June.

I know exactly what you mean about the cold there; I have a pretty high tolerance for subzero WI temps but many times I end up absolutely freezing from not dressing accordingly. This time maybe I’ll learn...at least the mask doubles as a face warmer!

Definitely, I do appreciate how you guys out there, as a whole, at least take it seriously. I’m in the middle of Trumpland here and the difference is astonishing...makes me want to puke most days with what I’m surrounded by
