I was in my ol’ hometown of Roseburg, Oregon yesterday and today, seeing old friends. I also made contact with a workmate that I hadn’t talked to in 20 plus years. He gold me that my beloved North Umpqua River was badly burned last fall, and now a new fire, the Jack Fire, is burning upstream on the North Umpqua River, burning areas that were unburied last fall. The North Umpqua is a jewel of Oregon rivers, and this is really sad. www.fireweatheravalanche.org/fire/state/oregonJohn

John, I just got off the phone with my oldest brother. He was telling me about a chopper called a K-Max: www.kaman.com/aerosystems/solutions/air-vehicles-mro/k-maxI thought it looked like a "Cobra" had a bad allergic reaction Yeah, I know, it's waaaay bigger, but still. Anyway... check out that rotor config, does it remind you of something: What is way super cool is that it can be used... REMOTELY! It doesn't need a pilot!!!!!!!!!!!!! We've got a couple more big fires now, near Placerville and Lake County--SIGH! JB

Yes, the K-Max does remind me of something: Huskie of sunrise, Kunsan 1969 by John Ratliff, on Flickr The HH-43B Huskie helicopter As you know, I crewed this helicopter in Korea throughout 1968, and had some memorable missions with it too. I had not heard that the K-Max was now being used as a drone. That is interesting. Thanks, and I don’t know why I didn’t see this earlier. John
