Not exactly vintage but I was scanning some old photos today and came across this pic of me (on the left in the At-Pac) and my older, taller, better looking brother before a dive. We each had short halibut-sticker spear guns- the year was 1981.

Here is a 1980s dive in Clear Lake, Oregon (headwaters of the McKinzie River). John using twin AL 72s in Clear Lake by John Ratliff, on Flickr John in Clear Lake with Bill Herder's BC by John Ratliff, on Flickr Note that I'm wearing a wetsuit built custom by Bill Herter, Deep Sea Bill's, Newport, Oregon and the white area in the back of the wetsuit is a double-layer neoprene buoyancy compensator. I'm also wearing a CO2 vest as my safety vest for surface use. The double tank scuba is using the original AL 2475 psi 72 cubic foot "floater" tanks, and hence the PVC tube on the back that houses 12 pounds of cylindrical weights (used in a different system). Here I am on my Openwater checkout at Lake Ouachita, Arkansas. It was May of 1984 and I was 12 yrs old. Dad was there too.

Love the Stabilizing Jackets and AIR II's. I got my first Stabilizing Jacket at 18.. I am pretty sure that was 1983.

Interesting how Clutch looks like Race Bannon from Johnny Quest fame.

Actually, it's the other way around! Hanna Barbara was rather infamous for stealing intellectual properties! As much as I like JQ it was a complete and total ripoff of Clutch Cargo Very few people are willing to see that. If you've ever seen Space Angel, same production company: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_AngelYou might recognize Scotty from Star Trek as taken from Taurus (voiced by Hal Smith, Otis the drunk on Andy Griffith) Yeah, I know, totally off topic, but no one is really posting much anyways JB EDIT: I couldn't remember his name when I responded: Race Bannon was also based on actor Jeff Chandler

I8t that a wing BC on your back ? It's a SeaPro AT-PAC. Shot weights (loose, not in mesh) are integrated in a compartment between the tank and the backpack (actually built into the backpack) and the wing is lashed onto the backpack. The dump hose comes over the shoulder and the inflate button is at the end of the hose, but the LP hose is only a few inches long and is attached to a quick-disconnect near the bladder. The inflator mechanism is inside the hose. The vest was cool too, you just slipped into it and velcroed the waist band. I loved diving my AT-PAC!

At the time of the At Pak, I was into developing and patenting my Para-Sea BC, and so I never did try one. I was also kinda remote, in Roseburg, Oregon and there were not At Pak dealers around. I would have probably liked it a lot. John
