Share something that made you smile/happy today!
I saw this and finally remembered to share this with my wife today:
PY, I can totally see us making these, can't you?

This old British "Punch" cartoon about the Daleks in the BBC sci-fi "Doctor Who" TV series always makes me smile whenever I look at it. It serves as a reminder that all technology has its unforeseen limitations as well as its planned benefits. I also smile about the metropolitan culture permeating "New Yorker" cartoons such as this recent one: “Can I have some water, and maybe a tuna salad on rye, light on the mayo, and a pickle on the side?”

DRW, very fitting actually! This morning we watched this dog: They used the same filter on a lot of the explosion sounds as they did on the Dalek's voices: it took me a few minutes to sync up "Exterminate, exterminate, exterminate..." with the sounds. When I was a lad I used to be obsessed with Dr. Who, but for me, Tom Baker is the one and only: I don't think I could bear to watch it nowadays though I had a friend in collage who was a total Anglophile and she would watch all the ones from the 1960's too: there was one that was supposed to take place in the Old West... You haven't lived until you hear someone from the UK atempting a Southern-drawl, just the same as Dick Vandyke doing a Cockney-accent but again, those things will bring a smile, or a grimace to your face, and that's what makes it fun... Or me trying to speak my family's native West Country (Somerset) accent "ooh-ahrr"! "I be the farmer I are!" a century too late! Mark

JB Seeing this video of racing wooden bikes didn’t make me smile, but rather contemplate the inventiveness of us as humans when there is no industry producing real bicycles. And here I’m worried about replacing the middle chainring on my bicycle because it now started skipping (it’s worn out). But I cannot even contemplate using one of these wooden bicycles. John

Go Artemis! I was on strip alert in 1970 for the launch of Apollo 13, and we did a "duckbutt" mission for President Nixon's flight to Hawaii to greet the Apollo 13 astronauts (a Duckbutt mission is a mission where we flew out of California for a circular mission off in the Pacific for Air Force One, acting as a navigation fix and possible rescue force for the President. So I'm excited that we are actually going to fly astronauts to the moon in 2024. We in the 55th Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Squadron trained in both parascuba jumps on Apollo, and deploying the ADDRS (Aircraft Deployable Drift Reduction System) and the floatation collar for Apollo. It's hard to believe that it's been 52 years since I took this photo: Apollo SimEx & HU-16001 by John Ratliff, on Flickr The flare in the background is the second flare we dropped from a HC-130 Hercules aircraft for our parascuba jump on the boilerplate capsule. It is a 60 minute flare that we used to get our count correct for the jump. Now, there is the Orion spacecraft, which will launch next Monday, and pararescue personnel have been training on that capsule. One of the former USAF pararescuemen is Brent Manley, and he posted this link on Facebook: All of this brings a smile to my face, JB. John

I thought this was really interesting, especially what he had to say about Albert Einstein! Not that Einstein was brilliant, but he gets waaaaaaaaaaaay too much credit for being a great thinker... Enjoy!

Jay,
Works been crazy busy lately, but I had Wednesday off to bake pies for a local sports team..... While baking my four apple pies I ran across some new music.
I'm a bit of an audiophile, so new music is always a good thing for me.....
