Okay, when my Seiko watch got old, for a time I was wearing this Armilton watch. As you can see, it has quite a bit of wear, and so I was wearing it for a while. Dive Watch001 by John Ratliff, on Flickr This is the face, which shows that it had "Date," "ALM" (alarm, I think), "Split," and "STP.W" (whatever that is). Dive Watch002 by John Ratliff, on Flickr Here's the back of the watch. I think I need to put a battery into it to get it working again. Here's the story behind the Armitron company: www.armitron.com/pages/about-usJohn

My Seiko watch is back on my wrist, and in great shape. Anthony did a great job getting it back after it leaked. I left the stem out, and then submerged it accidentally doing household chores. Here's Anthony's business card: Anthony's Watch Repair001 by John Ratliff, on Flickr Anthony now has my Armitron watch, and is putting a battery into it to get it going too. So I'll have two dive watches soon, I think. He said if it wasn't a simple battery change, there would be no charge. John

It’s always great to see old stuff put back into service. Goes hand in hand with why we like these old regs.

Boy, Anthony tightened that stem down so hard that it took me three tries to unscrew it, and change the date. It was reading November 31, which as everyone knows* is not possible. So now I've unscrewed it, changed that date to December 1 ("Thurs" "1") and it's now correct. I had to do that with my older Seiko too. It was still in my pocket from picking up my Solar Seiko Dive Watch on Tuesday (I know, I'm a bit behind). But that's part of having the vintage dive watch, in that they don't use the internet to look at the date. But it also keeps us on our toes.
"Thirty Days has September "April, June and November. "All the rest have Thirty-one, "Except February, "Which usually has 28, "But every four years, "Has 29 for Leap Year." Which gives me all sorts Of kaniption fits,
Trying to adjust my Seiko Dive watch By pulling out that knob To find the right place to move the Knob which changes the "Date" Forward from "28" To "29," Then to "30," Then to "31" And finally to "1" To get the correct March 1 date.
But to get there, I need to be careful, As if I do it too fast, I get to "2" Which also is not correct; Then I have to go through The whole dial From 1-31 to get back to "1"
Now I'm correct, And can go to a high school class That I'm tutoring, And when a student asks, "What time is it?" I can show him my Seiko Dive watch With it analong readout, Whereby he says, "I can't read that,"
And I can reply, "Then what are you going to do, When you're a pilot, And the pilot in the jet next to you shouts, "Bogey 2:00 High!!!" Where is that bogey?

John, there an old Warner Brothers Cartoon with what would eventually be Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd: whenever I hear that little ditty you wrote out, I think of that cartoon where Bugs tells Elmer": "You know what this'll cost you? Thirty days... hath September, April, June, and Montana, all the rest have cold weather, except in the summer, which isn't often." JB

I really like the way this image turned out: it looks BW but it's not! I didn't touch any of the colors, and that red on the dial adds that little bit of movement. I think the watch is from the 1980's, as it's made in Taiwan: the Indiglo strap is not original, but the only thing I could find at the time. JB

That Timex was my first Dive watch as a kid ( 1983). I think I may have it somewhere in a box. Your is in much better condition. I am surprised looking back that it actually worked to dive with. Although I was not doing the Deeps then.

I’m wearing my Amitron dive watch right now. I alternated out of the Seiko today, so I could try it out with its new battery. It’s keeping good time and I have an old band that is made for diving, so now I have two dive watches. Cost, $15.

Over the years I have always had people ask me about my favorite dive watch. They usually give me odd looks when I show them my casio duro ( $39.99) pre-inflation now they are 49.00 ish. I had a fairly new diver( you know the one that is a master diver in 3 months ) last summer thinking I was lying to him. Three of my dive buddies were on the trip and all showed his they were wearing the same watch. My son told a watch salesman recently" A sorry man is one who bangs up a rolex on a dive boat "... Most of my coworkers who are underwater a lot use G-Shocks although the GOV will not approve them as a Dive Watch...
I am sure most of you have fewer watches than regulators but still have a LC go to ?

I am sure most of you have fewer watches than regulators but still have a LC go to ? Sorry, but what's an "LC"? My wife gave me a really nice Oris that she won at work back in the early '90's, it's a man's dress watch: she also gave me her father's wristwatch that he wore during WW-II. While I was looking for my Timex Diver, I found my Seiko too, it looks just like this one: i.ebayimg.com/images/g/vK0AAOSwXAhg3OCd/s-l300.jpgThey all need servicing... JB

LC= Low Cost
Watch repair is a Dying art. Although I have seen some blogs and Youtube videos of people doing rebuilds.

I saw someone used a 3D printer for making a gig for custom printing watch faces...
I might want to think about that hobby... watches are smaller and easier to stash then DH Regs....

..Watch repair is a Dying art... Yeah, I very well aware of that fact! Most watch shops send their stuff out when it's a mechanical: that's the reason I posted that contact info for the shop in Alameda, as they do the work on the premises My mother in law gave me her father's Elgin pocket watch from the 19-teen's: she found an old Japanese guy in Napa, CA to service it before she gave it to me.
