That is a interesting thought. It looks like it can be refurbished. I appears that there is clear coat on top of the enamel of the ring. The crystal can be done with glass polish from a stained glass supply shop. At any case it appears that is does not owe you anything and has served you well. The bezel insert is made from clear Bakelite, with the numbers scale printed underneath. It’s fairly thick and you can see where some of it is missing toward the bottom. One thought on refurbishing would be to remove the bezel entirely and scrape out all of the old insert. Print a new insert and adhere it to the bottom. Then take some clear epoxy and flow it into the channel where the Bakelite had originally been. It would be tedious and take a super careful hand, but I guess it could be done.

Thanks for the interest on my Zodiac watch. I am very happy with the service it gave me. Yes, it doesn’t owe me anything. Recently I found out that it has become a desirable collector’s item, but not in the condition mine is in. I am glad I still have it. But a watch to me is just a functional device, just another tool (like a car). Restoring the bezel may be possible for someone with a lot more talent and patience than me. The glass is in much better chape that it appears in the picture. The light just made those minute scratches show, but they are not really visible under normal light. I talked to a shop that restores these watches and they will even repaint the hour and minute hands. They have faded from their bright orange color. I am still thinking about sending it in for service, but it is very hard to justify spending several hundred dollars for a watch that I will not use and it is never going to be a show piece. This watch weights a lot… when you at it from the side it is very thick. It is just part of some very good memories. It was always a conversation piece. Thanks

Thanks for describing how the bezel was made. That is exactly what the person I talked to told me about it. He also mentioned that sometimes NOS bezel show up for sale, but they go for lots of $$$. If the bezel from the new Zodiac Super Sea Wolf would fit it, it would be great, but I don't think it is the same. Oh well, it is probably going to stay as it is.
