Skip, here's an example of a flow-by: The soft-seat is attached to the piston, and when the valve is open, the air "flows by", or, around/past the seat and enters the small holes in the shoulders in the stem of the valve. And flow-through: The soft-seat is attached to the HP-nozzle: when the valve is open, the air rushed through the piston shaft. I hope that helps JB
