According to the original catalogs, the Aqua-Master went to the curved mouthpiece and black hoses in 1961. All catalogs thereafter never list the availability of yellow hoses for the AM. The Mistral did not start being offered in black hoses or curved mouth piece until later. So, for hints, we are looking at sometime between 1961 and John's 1970. As a hint, the "Jet Air" regulator had yellow hoses and black mouthpiece until its end. Anybody else want to guess? Allan

The Jet-Air was last sold in 1963 so my guess for the year that the Mistral was offered with black hoses & a curved mouthpeice is 1964.

You are correct in that the "Jet Air" was last offered in 1963 as part number 1020 and listed for $50.00. But the Mistral had black hoses before 1964. So we are now between 1961 and 1964. Allan

Hi, this is my first post here. I have been lurking a while but this post caught my eye as I am looking at a small red tank as I red this. I think I have one, or actually two, kinda. If it is what I think you are describing it was called a Snorkair. It had a chrome regulator first stage built into the tank valve with a yellow plastic corrugated hose going to a plastic regulator/mouthpiece. It was manufactured by the L.H. Arpin Co, who were the creators of Divair. This product was distributed by Healthways. I bought two of them about 10 years ago at a garage sale for two bucks. Both units had been diassembled and were useless and incomplete. The tank had the instructions printed on it: "Caution- Always exhale when rising in the water." Unfortunately I believe I have misplaced everything but the tanks. I am looking at one and the original hydro was 3-55, 2150 working pressure. I turned one tank into a pony by screwing in a 1/2" tapered USD "I" valve into it. I figured I would turn the other into an argon tank for drysuit diving but never got around to it. I guess it is around a 9 cubic foot tank, give or take a little. I have seen one or two on ebay during the past few years but know little of the history and did not know it had a snorkel. It seems it came with a white vinyl harness of some description.

Well, I've been holding back because I couldn't think of a question to ask, but now I'm ready. The Mistral first came standard with black hoses in 1963. Right?

CORRECT!!!!! I was beginning to wonder if anyone was still playing this game. In 1963 the 1008 "Mistal Regulator" featured BLACK, KLEER E-Z mouthpiece and BLACK hoses. It cost $67.50. The yellow hoses were now only available on the "Jet-Air". Now if anyone would make a set of yellows, my 1962 Mistral would be happy again. Nice job, Duckbill. Your turn.

Thanks Allan. My timing's not great because I will be going camping overnight later today, but I'll check back before I leave and again when I return tomorrow evening.
This one should be easy because I know a lot of you have old USD catalogs, so here goes:
"What is the name of the series of U.S.Divers mid-handled aluminum spearguns available in the 1960s?" While you're at it, I'd like to get a feel for the years these were available, so name the years they appear in the catalogs, if you can. Thankyou.

I had an Arbalete during the 1960s, but I don't think that is it. Here's a photo though: On the dive pictured, I actually shot a cabazone in the head, right between the eyes, with my weighted spear head--and it bounced off. That fish has a tough skull. It helped that it was very large (about 3 feet long) with a very wide skull (a full foot as I remember, but that was a long time ago;-) John

Simonbeans, I bet you can answer the part about the years.

The Seahunter series, there were 3 when they were first offered in 1966. I still have my Seahunter III (the shortest of the three). I only shot it once in the 60's. I was diving in Gull Lake, Michigan. Took one shot and one trophy. Can't tell what it was however. I am not too sure about legality of fish species at that time. New York does not allow spearfishing so it lays on a cabinet top, with 4 double hose regs on it. I know ithe Seahunters were around in 1970, but my later catalogs are elsewhere at the present. (Actually I don't have a lot of interest in post 1960s gear.) I will hunt (pun intended) up the answer next week if noone else chimes in.

I'll start another thread about these guns as I am interested about the models and years, so maybe Allen can chime in over there again. Thanks for the information Allan. John, you may have had one of the long "Sea Hunter" models there in the photo, but I couldn't see the handle and you didn't mention a name, but thankyou for that amazing story. Go ahead Joe, and congrats!

Hi Crimediver. Yes it was the SNORKAIR! And indeed it DID have a plastic snorkle attatched with a ball in a cage on the top!! While people drift around wondering about black mistral hoses, an item far rarer than any vintage gear offered has turned up. Not even that auction in europe had one!! You are indeed lucky to have one. It is indeed the rarest of the rare. If I had a medal I would give it to you, but I dont, so I send my best regards, Chucko

I was going to guess at the Seahunter, but since I had only a 1970 catelog, decided not to speculate. But there was also a pneumatic gun in the 1970 catelog, called the Jaguar, which had a center-mounted handle.

This should be an easy 2-part question about the Sea Hunt series. 1) What was the title of the premiere episode of Sea Hunt and on what date did it air? 2) What was the title of the final episode of Sea Hunt and on what date did it air? (Remember to answer both parts)

1) What was the title of the premiere episode of Sea Hunt and on what date did it air? Sixty Feet Below. 4 January 1958. 2) What was the title of the final episode of Sea Hunt and on what date did it air? Round Up. 23 September 1961. "Sea Hunt" ran for 155 episodes in all. These websites were my source: www.imdb.com/title/tt0051311/episodesepguides.com/SeaHunt/David
