He's Mike Nelson right down to wearing the weight belt underneath his scuba harness. John

It was surreal watching Mike Nelson walk down the ramp into the Wazee waters, a stiking contrast to the many dry suited divers on site. Of course, I was wishing for a dry suit.

Well, it was commented upon my my fellow members of the Salem Junior Aqua Club, circa 1964, concerning Mike Nelson's diving techniques. I thought I'd mention it here as it is very "in character" for Mike Nelson. I think that may have been a bit before DIR concepts were created.
Enjoy,
John

Where can we get white cotton webbing to make that cool weight belt? Uh, John, I think I am joking with you-- Thanks to Mike Nelson's greed-- --I now own that particular Vulcan knife--cool. That was a sharp idea, really cool idea and lent a nice bit of nostalgia to the event. Thanks Dan and thanks to Mike--the reluctant model--for donning the gear and parading around as Mike Nelson. Mike, that really looks great. I'm sure the Sea Hunt rig also swims very nicely too.
Uh, James, I knew you were joking, but I didn't want Mike to take what I said as a criticism. I think somewhere around here I have a poster with Lloyd Bridges outfitted in almost an identical pose, with the harness over the weight belt.

hey, that vintage diver is lookin' like the real deal! it was alot of fun to actully be able to wear the seahunt setup. thanks to dan and linda (now where did dan put the belt buckle), and to jerry lang for providing the gear for the photo shoot. it is unfortunate that vintage brother james nemrod did NOT have a sharp vulcan on his belt for the flag line fiasco but once again he lives to tell the tale.... mike

Thanks to Mike F for dressing up in a 40 year old wetsuit that was too small and so rotten that it was ready to tear to shreads if he bent the wrong way. Also thanks to Jerry L and Frans C for loaning some of their "Mike Nelson" treasures. I'm quite pleased how the photos came out. Perhaps next year, Jacque and Hans may even pay us a visit at Wazee. And thanks to Dave K for cooking us a great lunch! And lastly, a special thanks to all who traveled so far to participate at Wazee 2007! Despite the rain, I think we all had a good time... Dan PS- The 2 inch cotton webbing came from the local fabric store after I couldn't find an original one.
