Can anyone tell me what the differance was (if any) between the Broxton Ave DA's and the West Pico DA's?
Any - other than plant location?

The PICO DA's were the ultimate DA, with the non return hose and mouthpiece set, and plated internals to retard corrosion. Also the later ones shifted to the one piece can, with the exhaust horn soldered in. They all work the same!

DA's weren't manufacturered under the Broxton address, there for there were no Broxton DA's. The Broxton regs had a different horseshoe design and the second stage vented the opposite side of the can then the inhalation hose. The broxtons were a horse of a different color, the DA's are a better reg.

Before the Aqua Master there was the “NAVY TYPE DA” and the “DA” NAVY APPROVED. Both of these were available with West Pico address and I am fairly certain both were pre-venturi design like you are describing. I may be wrong. So anyone else with more knowledge in the subject please correct me if I am.

Ahh, as in DA Navy Approved. I had one of those. It was a wall hanger compared to it's more modern brethern. Seems to me though, that was a Pico address reg. At any rate. I could also be off base. No big surprise. Ha. I'd be interested in what Dan has to say.

Ahh, OK. So it appears that the Pico was a much-improved model - in-as-far as construction, etc.

The pico regulators like the navy type etc were just the same as the broxtons Mechanicaly. They had internal plating as mentioned above. The outside appearance was changed with the "DA NAVY which featured the soldered in exhaust horn, and no rivits holding the label on. They al work the same. I dive a black 1955 navy type DA and it gives great air, and is so simple. I love it! These were horse shoe regulators. The DA AQUAMASTER was an attempt to improve the older design, and it did improve function, but it didnt take all the fun out of diving the early stuff. I dont even own an aquamaster. I have a broXton aqualung, a Black NAVY TYPE DA, an early MISTRAL, and of course a 1957 DA NAVY! I have an early ROYAL, that I take along on most every trip, but it never gets wet! To each his own!
