I think if you made something like that compatible with DA AquaMaster hoses and adaptable to modern rebreathers... and that was reasonably priced, you'd have an immediate market for it. Might be a good place to start your Mk5 project... Partial proof of concept and income generator all in one.

Michael, it looks great! Any idea about the flow characteristics?

Cool! I've never seen a stereophonic duck call before. :-)

Stereophonic duck call. Now that's funny!!!
I think it looks great! The chrome-looking parts, are those stainless, chrome plated brass, or plastic?

Stereophonic duck caller?.....how on earth did you figure that out........yeah, it calls up duck-billed palegasauraus from the deep.......haven't tested it yet......not sure I want to be eaten.
Chrome brass or stainless....nah.......plastic magic.

Chrome brass or stainless....nah.......plastic magic. I see. The shiny parts are to get the barracuda in really close for intimate observation. I realise you weren't asking about the colors, but the reason I asked is that in the past metallic coatings haven't had a great track record of staying adhered to plastics or being scratch resistant. They usually were the first things to look bad. Maybe things have improved in more recent years though in that regard.

Actually, me thinks this shade of yellow for the mouthpiece and hoses will be fine.......maybe some blue accents on the collars.........

OldMossback,
I've of late been admiring the MR-12 mouthpiece opening in the last few days--it is a huge oval. This may have something to do with its good performance. One of the limiting factors in air flow is the cross-sectional area of the tube it's flowing through. Would you consider changing the Mk5 mouthpiece to a larger oval such as the MR-12/MR-12 II? There are new rubber mouthpieces made to the MR-12 spec too.

John, I was wondering about the MR-12 and its oval port for the mouth piece when I got mine: the mouth pieces on the Nemrods are oblong! Jaybird

Jaybird,
I did the math on the USD Calypso mouthpiece surface area, and the MR-12 mouthpiece surface area.
USD:.......3.53 square centimeters MR-12:....3.77 square centimeters
I don't think this influences the inhalation, but probably does for the exhalation. The two regulator second stages are set up much differently, and so the aerodynamics of the elliptical (oval) MR-12 help it because there is simply a hole oriented toward the mouthpiece. The Calypso has a metal flange that channels the inhalation from the main hole directly into the mouthpiece.

It just looks good against a black wet suit, and still looks bright under water even after the color fades out the deeper you go.
