Hey! I watched the James Bond Thunderball movie and saw some really interesting Vintage a Scuba gear. Sean Connery had a massive UW Scooter that had tanks and spear guns attached to it.
Does anybody have any memories or actually have a Vintage UW Scooter?

When I have a spare moment I'll try to get some screen grabs from "The Mermaids of Tiburon"...

- Our good Vintage diving buddy Jerry Lang has restored an original Voit PortaSub. We dove it in Fortune Pond in 2014 and again in Lake Wazee in 2015. I shot GoPro video both times. This still shot is from the GoPro video shot at Wazee just this past Spring. - There's a good bit of the Wazee PortaSub footage in the "Ultimate Vintage" video I posted here.

Okay, I finally got my Photoshop Elements loaded onto my "new" computer, and was able to convert this screen shot tiff to jpeg so I could upload it to PhotoBucket. This is one of the underwater scooters from Thunderball: I got it from this Thunderball Official Trailer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JowkFmI1FoJohn

Awww! That is a really nice scooter! I would love a replica of that. Ha! The LDS pool session would p*op themselves if I brought that to test out!
Thanks,
TD

AMF Voit was the big sponsor of dive gear in this film, right?

TD, as promised... I honestly don't know why more people don't get all hot-and-bothered about The Mermaids of Tiburon, this is vintage dive gear porn! Apart from watching Jacques Cousteau episodes, this is by far the best movie for showing off scuba gear... Jaybird

Those are some nice pictures. Honestly, EVERY Vintage Dive film uses yellow and black wetsuits. Why on earth don't they make them today!!!? Those scooters look very sleek, and the 2 person sub looks similar to a UDT Frogman sub from WWII.

TD, yes, I believe you are right about those minisubs being Italian WWII lineage. Gustav Dalla Valle, who was one of the two people who bought out HW was cousin to the Cressi family, and so HW and then SP became the sole North American importers of Cressi and related products... Oh, and here's another goody fer yas... Yeah, I know, what a nerd JB

What fins did Cousteau use, again? Cressi's right? My neighbour has a brother who was a hard-hat diver and would take anything that he could use or sell to feed his family. He'd salvage British WWII ships that sank in waters off of Malta. Hmmm. I'll have to ask him again if he knows anything about those cool Italian UW Scooters.

TD In the beginning, the Cousteau divers used various fins, but mostly the Churchill fins (1950s). Later, when they made the movie "World Without Sun," they used the Buchart Jet Fins, before Scubapro actually came out with them. They later switched to a longer, full-foot fin that I don't know much about. John
