I think my days of using a "modern "jacket style" BCD" are going to get fewer and fewer this coming Summer? When it comes to diving with vintage gear, I'd like to get used to diving without using a BC, however long that takes? I've done it a few times and was not as difficult as I had thought.
So when diving vintage with my Double Hose Mistral, I plan on using a canvas web and steel band tank harness that I'm really getting to enjoy using. Plus it is "so Mike Nelson" LOL!!!
When diving vintage and using my US Divers Calypso-J or my Healthways Scuba-Star I plan on using the several plastic and metal tank backpacks I have been accumilating here lately.
As for diving "modern" gear this coming Summer...I found a cheap used Dive-Rite Travel-Wing and going to use a new Trident plastic backpack that is a copy of the US Divers 70's era pack I have. Also plan on using my Conshelf XI Reg. set with this set-up. Even using a "modern" set-up, it still has a fin in the past...LOL. Plus I think it will be less "encumbering" than my modern BCD? Probably end up using my Steel 72 tanks a bit more as well?
I guess this topic was about weight belts at first?, but the last post got me thinking about my "hybrid pseudo modern-vintage" set up I hope to use this Summer. Mark

Mark, I like your train of thought here, but, you should have a "modern" kit that's good to go, even if you never use it, it works as a big "Hey pal, FU!" that you can pull out any time: never limit your self, 'cause we all know that a lot of DM's can be real, um-ah, weenies, to put it nicely JB

I'm not getting rid of my modern BC, just going to try something different. If I can take a trip sometime (God willing!!!) I'll have gear that is "approved". I get what you are saying. Mark

If you're using a full wetsuit, you'll need some sort of BC to dive safely at any appreciable depth. There's a reason why divers started using them.

Terry, I've dove Whiskeytown Lake and Lake Tahoe without a weight belt (in the summer time!). Lake Tahoe, I went to 65 feet .... it was cool! Robert

Here is that "hybrid pseudo-modern/vintage "tech" inspired" set up I had mentioned. New Trident plastic backpack, recent Dive-Rite "Travel Wing" BC, US Divers Conshelf XI with replacement yoke, 1970's-1990's era? SPG & Depth Gauge, 1970-ish US Divers Steel 72. Of course I can use most any reg. and cylinder combo. I'm missing the "Octopus" in the photo. Need to adjust the cylinder straps and other things, but can wait till I actually take this in the water, etc. Oh, yeah, weight belts... I have a few 70's era with the stainless buckles and plan to get a wire buckle set-up soon. Not sure how this set up will work?, but it looks like it will take up less space than a modern Jacket type BCD? Mark

That's where I got this one, just thought I'd ask if anyone had one they wanted to sell. I posted this in the wanted section a while back, but no luck, and this is not life or death if I find one. Mark
