Good eye, JB. I snuck home for a couple quick pics. Of course, having UPS deliver to my office is nice and convenient. Most of the toys would end up waiting in the box but this one has a cool little tone to it. It speaks to me. Now if I can keep the ham fist at bay I may be able to get it into the water again.

DD, here's what mine looks like right now... Note that the main diaphragm is mostly covered, and there's only a very small hole to activate it; this was done to insure a good vacuum to activate the diaphragm with minimal effort! Jaybird

This second stage is definitely brass and I'll upload some photos I took ealier as I was trying to track down a slight leak. At first the leak was sizeable. One that would probably drain the tank after just a few minutes so the first thing I did was clean away the sand by immersing the regulator and purging the you know what out of it. This, along with some gentle cleaning, seemed to reduce the leak considerably, but it didn't stop it entirely, so I referred again to the guide. Next I took the valve body apart looking for debris but found none. The main diaphragm looks like it's been in there for quit a while and the brass ring holding it in place looked clean, along with the cavity with all the holes in it. I added silicone, reversed the seat and tried in once again. Now the leak seems to have stopped. I'll leave it pressurized (with the tank off) and purge it in an hour or so. There were no longer any visible bubbles coming from the assembly when I last submerged it, so hopefully it holds pressure. I'll check the IP if the leak seems to the stopped. I looked again at the exhaust and inhalation diaphragms and they looked much better after that simple cleaning. I may have a nice usable regulator here.

There is a pause when I breath from the regulator, it's the same as when I press the purge button. Is this unique to this design? A service indication? Any thoughts?

DD, did you "thread" the valve properly? There's that wee-bonny hole where the stem goes through for the diaphragm... I guess if you didn't have it in there already it wouldn't work? Just a thought...

Oh, it's in there. I've yet to compare with the one you sent me. I was just wondering if anyone who has experience [ahem Ol Mossback) would recognize the pause. Or anyone who's worked on them in the past... Thanks again JB.

DD, I'm pretty sure Charlie knows about them... Until you get a response, try puttin' those parts I gave you on it, like the purdy red purge-button: for some reason colorful regs just work better--what ya don't b'leve me JB

I bought one of these chrome Tekna's when they first came out, I only got the second stage and put it on a USD first stage. The chrome version would not completely clear without using the purge button. I replaced the metal body with a plastic one. I heard that was improved with the plastic body. I liked the small size and it worked well but I would have liked to adjust it to breath a little easier than it did. I was diving with it in Lake Superior about 100 miles N of Thunder Bay. It was the coldest water I had ever experienced. Near the 100' mark something shot to the back of my throat, I thought it might have been the little circlip on the tilt valve. I started back to the surface and it happened again. Turns out it was shooting little bits of ice at considerable velocity. That was the last time I used it. I later bought an Oceanic Omega and I never had any problems with those. I seem to remember hearing about a connection between Tekna and Oceanic. The hard rubber disk with the small metal insert on the Tekna, looks identical to the one used on the Omega's. IMHO the Tekna and the Omega share some common quirks but I found the Omega to be far superior and its a reg that was on the market for a very long time. I still use one as an octo on some dives. The Tekna does have a coolness factor until that turns to high velocity ice chunks :-)

So didn't Tekna/Farallon merge, get bought out by, with Oceanic? They're headquartered about five miles from my house. My wife has seen them testing gear at the San Leandro Boy's Club swimming pool: one would think they'd have their own pool fer testin' stuff, but none the less, she's dun seen 'em thar!

Hey Retpo, where were you diving? Superior is right in my back yard. Though I haven't been on the Canadian side yet. There's a nice yacht I'd like to dive, the Gunilda. Heard of it? That's the only thing I know of North of Isle Royale. Love to hear more. Thanks,
DD

Not sure why that happens unless it has something to do with being super sensitive to light water pressure. Make sure your main diaphragm/purge button housing is snug up to the body........that thing is pretty exact in its specification requirements....not a sloppy design at all. Oldmossback

I was diving the Rappahnock, that was awhile ago. I later kept a small boat at the Marina in Ashland and my first probation/parole field office was in Hayward.
