Snark-A-Master...- My buddy Rich acquired a new Snark III Silver fireman's regulator. It is identical to a diving reg except it has no exhaust hose inlet... The front can is almost flat against the diaphragm. - All this reg needs to be converted to underwater use is a front can with exhaust capabilities. But, Snark III cans aren't that easy to find for sale as just the cans. - Since the Snark III works with a Mistral diaphragm, we thought maybe a front can from a Mistral or DA AquaMaster might fit. - So last night we took a DA AquaMaster front exhaust can from one of my unfinished projects, put a new duckbill on it, and fit it on the front of the Snark III... And it fit fine. We put a double hose loop on it... Used Voit gray hoses and mouthpiece just to include as many brands as possible... And tested it on low and high pressure tanks. It seems to work like the virtually brand new regulator that it is. - We're going to try it out in the High School pool on Sunday... Look on page 1 of this thread for the Snarubastral Rev1! I went the other way, with a Snark III bottom can on the Mistral top can. This one also has a Healthways valve in the mix. I should add this parts swappability to the list.

Dang it. I don't want to register for Facebook, but I'd like to see what they're up to. I'll have to get on my wife's account.

BTW, in case anyone cares, the noun Snark is thought to have first been used by Lewis Carroll in his poem "The Hunting of the Snark". It is an imaginary creature.

I was thinking the very same thing. Only, here's a bit of non-useful info: it's the Jabberwock. Jabberwocky is the name of the poem, meaning, "concerning the Jabberwock".
The Snark bottom can on the Mistral top can and the HW valve= Jabberwock Rev1!

I'm working on my Snark III Silver to make a dive system I will use as my second mainstay rig. I have a HydroTwin II which will be the main setup. Both have a safe second, SPG and BCD hose. I need to make an adapter for the Siver that will accept a 3 way splitter. I have machined a couple of adapters for the Blue labels and the Super, but they won't work with the 3 ways I have. They have to be machined smaller than the adapter will work with in order to fit on the relief valve port. Pics to follow.
The Snark III Super and Blue labels have less space between the top can and the relief valve port than the Silver. This means the older ones can't accept the hex stock of the adapter I found, and they have to be turned down to a smaller diameter to fit. This means that the adapters have to be machined so there's a bigger diameter flange at the top so the 3 way doesn't slip down the shaft. Again, pics to follow. I ordered two more from England to experiment with. I will post my progress.

In case any were wondering, this does not mean my enthusiasm for single stage double hose regulators has been staunched. I have two Y valves on tanks that will allow me to use the single stagers with a second single hose regulator with peripherals. I am working on a vest style BCD that will work with this set up, so I can ditch the horse collar and free the nads! I may also experiment with this and my new backplane bcd setup.

The story behind this 250 ft Snark is incredible and I’m proud to be its new caretaker. Crazy to think how something that was in such condition is now display-worthy and right in my living room. 250 ft Snark by Jim Perdway, on Flickr In addition to being a bitchin display piece, it’s still very much in circulation for diving! The USD diaphragm tore slightly, but a new blue silicone one is coming in the mail today (unless Rob had to substitute for another color). I have one of his new exhaust valves in case I need it down the road. Or if I have it should I just use it? Phil it’s your call on that 🙂

I've never used one of the silicone exhaust valves. Let us know if you think it makes exhalation easier!

I'm very happy you like it and appreciate it's history. It was one of my favorites in the collection, and I'm really glad it's being used. I would have never dived it again, I'm sure.
I've been moving most of my regs along to the younger generation. Every once in a while somebody gets a bonus in the box. Fred will be showing us a new reg he got in a few weeks.
I really need to write down some directions detailing what to do with my stuff so it doesn't end up in landfill when my daughters get stuck with it. I am trimming it down!

The reg and pieces are on the way. I would like to say thank you Phil, for this Dacor 2020, and all the others, I must post more photos and comments, I think that that the first purchase on ebay was in may 2020 during the first confinement, it was a healthways SCUBA. Difficult for me to say witch i prefer. Your TITAN II conversion is one of my favorite, other one that really love is the hydro twin a master piece. Thanks a lot Phil Cheer's Fred

I dive my Nemrod silver last weekend Saturday and sunday, total time 2h20, at 50 ft max. I would like to make photos and video, but the lock ok my GoPro box broke Sunday before the second dive😔. Just to say that with his large exhaust valve, the exhalation is really easy, almost like a single hose, and inhalation are very light. I hope soon be able to test the first version, but I would like first, find a good work shop to make a new chrome plated of the box's.

Phil’s the man. His regs got me back into diving after a decade away from it.
