You stink! JB I know. The reg is sweeeet, eh? The chrome is much better quality on this model than it is on the newer plastic bodied ones. I've noticed this on the couple of alloy models I've seen. The covers on both my plastic ones have very thin plating. I'm going to put a duckbill in the exhaust horn, I think.

Phil, there was a Divair on eBait a while ago and the hose was cracked near the mouthpiece. What made the crack so interesting was that you could see a non-return-disc set into the convolutions of the hose...

Huh. Nope, not this one. I see on Robert's diagram of the alloy DivAir with the metal mp there are non-returns for the mp. I don't know how this is possible, given the tiny diameter of the mp outlets. The mp is marked "Nibco", btw. Nibco is a maker of copper plumbing fittings.... Did they solder up some copper plumbing to make their mouthpieces?

Phil, please tell me you're going to actually dive this one...

I will. I plan to dive ever' last regulator I got! (Not the single hosers. Meh.) I have pool tested my Misuba Rev1, several Scubas, a couple Deluxes, a couple GLs, both my fiberglass DivAirs, several Mistrals, and a Snark III or two. I have actually dived, in open water, your Snark III, and my GL. I am going to pool test the Sjuba, the 250ft Snark III, the 50 Fathom, and the alloy DivAir tomorrow. I might do the fake '62 Deluxe and another Deluxe as well. That's ambitious, but WTH. Then, I have to decide which 2 get to go to Monterey Tuesday. Probably not the alloy DivAir or the 50 Fathom. The DivAir's too pretty, and the 50 Fathom's paint is too fragile to dunk in salt water.....

Awesome--good for you! Say, Jim Steele was saying that he was going to dive his USD Aquamatic at the next vintage meet: if anyone can get one of those dive ready he can!

Those are intriguing regs, but generally considered poor at best. I have an Oceanic which is similar, and supposed to be a great reg, but I haven't dived it.

That's Jim, he just like to play with old stuff, not unlike you and me JB

JB I would highly recommend NOT to dive the Aquamatic. The diaphrigm is not one which gives me a lot of confidence and is over 50 years old. However, the Professional Aquamatic, of which I have one, is one I have dived in open water, but it has a Calypso-like second stage. John

Hmmmmm? Well, what can I say, only that I've had this conversation with him and still... Knowing Jim as I do, I'm sure he's had hundreds of regs fail on him at depth, and not the low hundreds either Only he gets to make those decisions for himself, not us: hopefully I'll be on that dive to watch it in action! Nerves of Steele that boy has, GROOOOOOOOOAN! JB

And his Steeley gaze is something as well. Humpf.
I did the tests today with my crew of regulator testers: my daughter, her boyfriend, and their friend who happens to be a dive master. When he found out I was pool testing vintage gear he really wanted to go along!
The pool was outdoors, unheated, about 50 something degrees. The potential son-in-law tested single hosers. I tested doublehoses. The divemaster had no wetsuit and went in freestyle to test out the alloy DivAir and a GL. He was impressed.
I tested the Sjuba (a Scuba with the JB produced Snorklejet air director into the intake hose thingy) with a Hope-Page and a Vance duckbill (WIN!), and a Scuba with an HW hoseloop and a Vance duckbill.
I was very pleased with the Sjuba's performance, and was pleased with the exhaust effort on the both the Sjuba and the stock Scuba! My duckbill does not seem to increase exhalation effort at all. The Sjuba sounds like a Mistral with its fancy air delivery system, but it breathes great, subjectively as good as a GL. I'd love to see a 3D printed version of the snorkeljet!
I also checked out a Deluxe, the 50 Fathom, a GL, the alloy DivAir, and 2 USD Aquarii, and 2 Dacor 400 balanced single hosers. I did not get a chance to check out the 250ft Snark, as I had forgotten I need a case clamp for it and don't want to put "hog rings" on it.
The DivAir worked great, and breathes well. It's no GL or Mistral, but certainly diveable. Very similar to the Scuba with an HP mouthpiece.
The 50 Fathom was not bad, but I think I'll turn the valve back to the big hole pointing at the intake as it was a bit harder breathing than it could be.
The GL is a GL. Nice regulator!
The Deluxe worked fine, just like an original Scuba.
The Dacor 400s are great breathers!
The Aquarii don't perform quite as well as the Dacor Balanced, but are pretty good.

EXCELLENT!This is extremely heartening for me; especially since it felt like for the most part it fell on deaf ears prior to yours JB

There's hardly nobody who loves a Scuba like John, Mark, you, and me, JB! If there's anyone else speak up! But the Sjuba rocks!
