Has anyone experienced a slight wetness in the inhalation of their Dacor double hoses? I was wondering if that center rivet on the main diaphragm was letting in water.

Michael, which are you talking about: is it a single or double diaphragm model?

Hmmmm? No, I haven't had this problem, sorry. Have you tried some RTV on the back side of the rivets? Is the can deck flush where the diaphragm flange sits? Those can become distorted sometimes too... But, as you and I both know, they'll never walk out on you, like other regs can.

I put a piece of packing tape over the revet with no improvement. Not sure why I draw air.......must make further examination.

Michael, have you checked your hose-ends? You may be getting some seep at your mouthpiece or air horns... Also, what kind of mouthpiece? If it's a single piece, good, but those with replaceable mouthpieces like a Hope_page can leak if not secured properly!

The sound of air comes from the can.....it could very well be the horn clamp is not tight enough......will check.

Michael, if it is a newer Dacor, with the new diaphragms, it could be a slight split in the diaphragm itself. While very flexible, these newer ones are paper-thin too.

The first reg I ever bought: was doing this too: it was leaking around the flange of the diaphragm: the problem went away when I got a new one. On Dacor's Dart series, which has the same style, only smaller cans, they used a rubber-spacer to stop the cans from leaking You can try to either RTV it in, or make a spacer to close things up... Just brain storming here! JB

Do you have the inlet to the nozzle plugged? If not you can pull air all the way through the reg....which is normal. The inlet must be plugged with a dust cover that seals or put it on a tank with the valve closed....or just put your thumb over the filter and try again.

Did the reg actually breathe wet, or did you do this test dry? The early models had a rim gasket that increased the thickness of the very thin diaphragm rims which helped seal them.

Speaking of Dacor DH regs, a very nice guy from Oklahoma bought an R-3 from me recently. He and I sent a few emails back and forth, and I mentioned I had an R-3 missing some hard parts. He said he had a couple old R-3s which had no diaphragms and he'd send me one for parts. It ended up being a pristine regulator (under the "patina", or dirt, as I call it) and my project ended up contributing more of its parts to the new one. He included a mouthpiece, too. I have a pair of 1" Dacor hoses, so it's a complete reg now!
