Well wanted to say hi...me and wife dive ..and want our own vintage gear..wanting to get info on buying gear we can use ..we are Canadian Hello and welcome to the forum! Glad to see you've taken an interest in vintage diving. If you don't mind my asking, what made you want to dive vintage? I'm Canadian as well. There's not too many of them on the forum! So let's get some basics down. Are you interested in vintage single hoses or vintage double hose regulators? If double hose regulators is your thing, would you like to use single stage or two stage? If you're not familiar with these terms let me know. TD

Hi! Welcome to the forum. I live in the North East of England and my specialist interest is the history of fins, masks, snorkels and diving suits. We're a friendly international bunch here. Speaking of Canada, over the years, while visiting my brother in the American Upper Midwest, I've been to Victoria, Vancouver, Sault Ste. Marie, Toronto and Montreal. Great memories! If you want to find out more about vintage diving in Canada now and what was available in the way of diving equipment in Canada half a century ago, I recommend the Northwest Diving History site and the CG-45 website collection of International Divers Canada catalogues. Well we just like the older stuff common interest I guess ...will be doing ndouble hose and single stage ..is what we are thinking ..I m from Alberta where you from I'm from Ontario. What I can recommend is that you do some reading about the type of gear you'll be wanting to use first. Don't jump into any auctions yet, that's how problems happen! If you're looking for single stage regulators, may I recommend the US Divers Mistral or the Healthways Scuba? Both have parts easily available and the Mistral can be serviced in 3 minutes (timed it myself). If you're looking for redundancy, sling a pony if you don't use double tanks while using a doublehose. Let me know if there's anything else I can help with. As for places to buy the regulators, try some members here or The Scuba Musuem. Use eBay as a last resort, if it's too good to be true then it probably is. TD

Rcrane, can you please use real words? There are people on the forum, myself included who are dyslexic, and it can be very difficult to help if we don't know exactly what you're saying. Please don't be afraid to ask questions: the only dumb question is the one you never ask. My specialty is Healthways and Dacor, but I am very familiar with most other brands of gear: we can teach you to service your own gear--really! Jaybird

Thanks: I believe the Jetair has the same internals as the Mitral: if that is the case, they're a very simple reg. but the breathing characteristics are excellent for it being unbalanced. And of course , the DA is the go-to reg for DH's. You guys should have lots of fun with them JB

You may want to find a copy of Basic Scuba by Fred M. Roberts, second edition. It's considered he bible of vintage scuba. The regs in the second edition end in 1962, but they these include the early single hoses too: very little has changed since then, really! What has really changed is the exhaust size and silicone diaphragms. Oh, and you'll also want an IP-gauge: intermediate pressure: not unlike a vacuum gauge for a car, this will tell you what your reg is doing, what shape things are in.

Ok I had to get my wife to send me pics of them .I have a aqualung DA aqua-master 2 stage regulator...and a jetair Aqua lung ...sorry about that .. Both of these are very good buys. Both will fix up well. Use the Jet Air only on lower pressure tanks though, as the seat may not handle 3000 psig well. The DA Aquamaster is a wonderful regulator, used by the U.S. Navy for years and thoroughly tested. If you set the intermediate pressure, you want to do that on a tank with around 500 psig, as this is an unbalanced diaphragm regulator, and the interstage pressure goes up as the tank pressure goes down. By the way, it looks ilke Herman will be making a fitting for the hookah outlet on the DA Aquamaster in the next quarter or so (3-6 months). Setting the IP on the DA Aquamaster is difficult without it, and requires a special fitting for the gauge. Without Herman's attachment (when it gets here), the IP can only be set with the second stage removed. If you are not worried about the IP, you can use the ol' Navy way (for use on ships without all the equipment to service the Aquamaster), of putting the regulator on a tank containing about 500 psig, turning the adjusting nut until the second stage leaks, then backing it out (counter clockwise) 1/4 turn.
