What were divers using in the 60's and 70's for BC's or horse collars? US Divers? What models?

When I learned to dive in '74, we were using horse collars. I had a Seaquest, CO2 cartridge for emergencies, no power inflation, oral only. I presently own 2, a Scubapro model and a different Seaquest.

When I started diving there were no such things as BC's or Horse Collars. Today when I dive vintage, which is almost all the time, I use a old White Stag back pack, and it works just great. Frans

In the early 60’s no floatation devices were commonly used. In the later 60’s you began to see the emergence of the “Mae West” which was normally a surplus navy life vest that the navy divers used (still available today) with a small oral inflator hose and a CO2 cartridge. The different dive companies started producing a commercial equivalent to the Mae West as more divers were using them, still with the small oral tube and CO2’s. By the early 70’s the true BC started to emerge with large bore oral inflators (still with CO2s) power inflators and over-pressure valves. These were called Horse Collar BC’s. The next big chance was the introduction of the At-Pac, back BC, and by the mid 70’s most scuba companies had a back BC in their catalog. In 75 or 76 ScubaPro came out with the Jacket BC and that brings us up to date. There are a lot of sub-categories to this story but this is the simple version.

I may have been more detailed than you wanted, as for companies making mae wests/bc's the majors were, US Divers, Sportsways, Healthways, ScubaPro, Voit, White Stag, Imperial, DACOR, and I know I missed some, any one add to the list?
