Hey you guys. I've been trying to decide if i should make a banjo adapter to use with a modern k valve with a burst disk, or to just use a j valve with an HP port on it. I would just not even consider this a decision and just go out and get the latter, since it would be more practical for me, instead of putting all that work in a banjo, but i've been so paranoid lately about valves with no burst disks... for example, i was in a dive shop the other day and one of the employees overfilled a tank and that burst disk went off... thus everything was ok... but i've also heard about alot of divers using j valves throughout history... so it must not happen often or something... anyway there's certainly NO vintage divers around here, so i figured i'd just post this and see what some of you prefer. I appreaciate any responses you guys give. - KC

I'm unsure if I understand your question. Are you thinking that a J valve with a HP Port does not have a burst disc? Valves, both J & K have been made with and without HP Ports, but all that I've seen have had burst discs as well.

I have some very early J valves and they all have burst discs. I have never seen one without one.

Thanks you two that helped my decision alot... and yeah, that was pretty much what i was asking. I've examined vintage j's and k's and none of them looked like they had burst disks, apparently i overlooked them.

I have a J-valve with an HP port that I was going to use, until I realized there was **NO** burst disc. It's the only valve I've ever seen without a burst disc. Maybe it was meant to be used with a pressure gauge that had a blow out disc. The valve does not have any manufacturers name on it. I ended up getting a Dacor J-valve that has both a burst disc and HP port.

Dennis,
I wonder who made that valve. I have a Voit tank with a 1/2 pipe thread J valve. The tank is stamped Voit but the valve is not, it only has the date of manufacture on it. I know this is original because it is the first tank I bought new in 1957. This valve does have a burst disc of the type that has a lead plug in it that will melt if the tank is exposed to fire.
