All in all it's probably a good idea. However, it sure was fun to watch the names of the people you knew were bidding. Finally, it doesn't stop the scam artists from starting a fake auction because they will still rip you off even if your listed as Bidder 1. Once you win they know who you are, or worse yet you've already paid them and then you never get what you paid for.

Maybe it is just me but since going with high speed wireless internet I just no longer have any of those problems. When I was on AOL, AOL is a joke, I was constantly bombarded with that stuff.
A second email name would cost me more money from my wireless provider. If NetZero actually ever goes to ZERO dollars I might run a second email account on them. Yeah, I know about Yahoo and all that but those thrid party and second party email accounts just have not proven stable for me and they are prone to philshing and scamming.

Everything you do to protect yourself from having a crook totally clean out your bank account is really worth the effort. No worries there. I seem to always keep my account nice and tidy....er, I mean "cleaned out"!

I run dial-up and never get bogus 2nd chance offers. I think you guys have just managed to somehow get yourselves on somebody's list.
Another downside to note on the 1, 2, 3,..... eBay bidder change- It makes it hard to detect shill bidding during an auction, and thus avoid the seller if you choose to. I doubt eBay takes the time to analyze the bidders and bidding to find shill bidding. It has really always been up to us. Now we can't.

I've only been ripped off once on e-bay and not for much, I think $15.00 ... and now folks, getting back to diving ... just joking! What, no one's laughing?

You nailed it on the head with the Paypal account, William. I went out and got one of those "pre-paid" credit cards, and only put in the amount I am sending off to E-Bay through Pay-Pal. Let'm try to take money out of an empty account, Ha!
