I would like to have an audit of readers who own BLUE label BROXTON Aqua Lungs, and Navy type DA"S. I know the red and green labels came in the 5 through 11000 range of the early Broxtons, BUT where exactly did the BLUE labels appear, and when did they change to the BLACK pico label, but still featuring the Broxton parts? I would guess to say the blue labels appeared about serial 12.xxx and the blue labels faded out in the mid 28xxx range I have owned ten broxtons and the lowest was 12xxx and the highest I have ever saw was 28xxx in there. The blue ones were most popular, and those after say 17.000 were the best of them all as they grew long horns by then! The black label navy DA type I have seen in the mid 40xxx range up through about 48xxx. I would suggest that the overpressures were in there running in their own range while the broxtons were the sales leader and had a pre alloted range. When the Broxtons ended up in the 28xxx range there was an allotment for more numbers, but they were never used. They went to the new navy type DA with the move to PICO, and it ran in its own range using up surplus BROXTON parts. The improved DA NAVY came along at 50.000 with various labels up through about 58000. How many of you own these great lever action regs, and can list their serial numbers here. While these arent as popular as the royals, and aquamasters, they are the root of our sport. Lets see if we can get a better picture of when they were made, and the longevity of those that still exist. For example, I have Blue broxton number 20151. I know for a fact it was bought with its original matching tank in 1954. This info from the son of the original purchaser. In the film "the making of 20000 leagues under the sea" there are shots of tons of great gear, but the regs they were using were BLUE label BROXTONS and the date is early 1954. That is fact. So by 1954 the blue labels were being sold and used. I speculate that when these regs appeared with the new pico labels, U S DIVERS wanted to feature something new to get their sales really rolling, and the navy DA type was just that. A FACE LIFT! Its the same reg inside. So list your numbers, and give your opinion of when your reg was made, and thoughts on my speculation. Thanks BROX

What gifts are you giving away in you contest?

I think that aside from the obvious fact that the word "contest" was not even mentioned, the benefit to everyone by such an endeavor should be gift enough for those who are truly interested in diving history.

Chuck,
I tend to agree with you in that the blue labels came out in 1954. Although it is quite possible they came out in late 1953. I know that the green labels were at the 9,000 mark in June '53. The spread that I've seen in blue labels is from 14,580 to 26,461. I have a green label that is 12,101. As far as the navy type da spread, I've seen from 44,006 to 48,408.

You may own the LAST GREEN label BROXTON ever! I thought the blue ones started about 12000, toward the end of 1953 but I was guessing. I did sell a blue broxton a couple years ago that was serial 12100 in that range. I think of all those BLUE label broxtons in the making of 20 000 leagues under the sea movie. That positivly dates the BLUE labels in use in EARLY 1954. Other rare gear is the early web harness, and side mount j valves that you pulled with your RIGHT hand!! That stuff is priceless now. Im amazed more people who are into vintage gear arent into this early range stuff, as it is so simple, and is such a pleasure to dive. By the way I saw Dorothy bought a BROXTON on ebay last night! YAAAAAAAY!

Duckbill, Being a jerk to others from another forum that you got booted from does not help. It only interferes with the educational process of those who want to learn more about the history. Token gifts are always appreciated and acts as an incentive for vintage collectors and divers to put forth extra effort to help the cause.

Please, no name-calling. I hope whatever happened on the other forum stays over there...

Unfortunately, the two forums are for vintage divers. So what happens to individuals WILL affect both forums. I have been quite reasonable in regards to some of the latest underhandedness of some vintage (sic) divers, but when one indiividual attempts to dismantle my efforts and to cause purposeful disruption of vintage dive events, then the line in the sand is drawn. For two years this so called diver has tried to stop the Sand Dog programs that I put literally hundreds of hours and hundreds of dollars of my money into. I do this willingly and with no desire of reward or gain. But for the past two years one individual has put forth effort to destroy all the planning for this fine vintage event. It is now time to take off the gloves. Under the guise of naiveté or insanity this man has caused me much anxiety and problems. It will not happen again. If an apology is forthcoming then I will listen. If not, there is not a forum in the diving world who will not know what he tried to do.

Allan, Karl was talking about me. He can PM me and explain when I was ever a jerk to anyone who wasn't begging for it. But, I haven't had anything to do with the Sand Dog events, so I'm confused.

The dynamics of a group like this are fascinating to watch...such a simple idea as Chuck started has taken a real change.
Allan has a good point, it is frustrating when someone does a voluntary service and runs into trouble...but that is the rare occurence with this group. William's point is so true, great group that is fun to read. I am just sorry I have not had the time, ok, honestly have not MADE the time, to attend Sand Dog, Wazee, etc. Starting to feel the loss and wondering if we can organize something in the Mid-Atlantic region.
After years of diving and teaching and having to put up with all types of people I have reached the point of no longer teaching and just diving to enjoy. Someone is a pain, I go else where.
Dan and Linda provide a great service for us...sure hope they don't get offended.
Now back to Chuck's original post...rats, I don't own a Broxton :-(

So what happens to individuals WILL affect both forums... It is now time to take off the gloves... I respectfully disagree. If any two (or more) individuals are having a disagreement, there are several ways to communicate -- by email, phone, regular mail, face to face meetings, etc. You will not use our place of business as a means to "duke it out". Name-calling and hate speech will not be tolerated here. That goes for everyone. *** I sincerely apologize to Broxton Chuck and broxton -- I thought it best to lock the thread in order to prevent it from escalating off-topic. Perhaps the original discussion can be taken up again after a "cool-down" period. Again, I apologize.
