I have decided to go back to my hand-written dive log system that I used up until about 1989. The reason I did so has to do with a presentation I just put together for a symposium on mussels held near here, in Vancouver, Washington last week. Unfortunately, I could not be there, so I put together a CD with my presentation on it. I could not have done it without these dive logs. My hand-written dive logs proved more accessible than the on-line ones that I have been using lately. Let me show you what I'm talking about. This is my dive log from 5-28-1984: I dove a week or so later, on June 3rd, 1984, and recorded this dive log: Because of these dive logs, I was able to put together a half-hour presentation on the photos I took that day, at this dive site: Here is one of the photos I took during one of those dives: And this is what I looked like on a dive the next year at the Winchester Dam (another story, but same wet suit. I usually used the single tank in high-current situations (same one I use today) and my own BC, the Para-Sea BC. Enjoy, John

I've always preferred a hand written logbook. Started with the old Aquacraft book, really liked them. Used a couple PADI books, but don't care for 'em. I buy blank journals now and use them for logs.

Great pics by the way, John. I'm going to be visiting my son in Aloha, OR on Memorial weekend. Any chance you could take me on a vintage dive up that way?

Dale,
The Clackamas River is only a half hour away, and beckons us for Memorial Day weekend. I'm in Beaverton, very close to Aloha. There is a dive shop in Aloha, Pacific Watersports, which has some vintage gear hanging and scattered around the shop too.

Having used a bunch of log books over the years I gave up buying them an created my own in Adobe. I type in all my info on my homemade form (my hand writting stinks), print a hard copy and also leave a copy on my computer.

Dale,
I still have an AquaCraft log book! It even has decompression tables in it. Since I don't do much log entries, it has lasted me along time ...
